Job Description: 

Position Summary

The Buyer is responsible for sourcing and procurement activities that ensure the uninterrupted supply of materials and services required to support production schedules and customer delivery commitments.

 

This role manages supplier performance, negotiates pricing and commercial terms, drives cost reduction initiatives, resolves quality and delivery issues, and supports new product introductions. The Buyer works closely with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Planning, and Finance to achieve company objectives for cost, delivery, inventory, and supplier performance.

 

Key Responsibilities

Manage assigned suppliers, commodities, and procurement spend.

  • Place and manage purchase orders, blanket orders, and supplier agreements.
  • Negotiate pricing, lead times, payment terms, and long-term supply agreements.
  • Drive annual cost reduction and productivity initiatives.
  • Resolve supplier delivery, quality, and capacity issues.
  • Monitor and improve supplier on-time delivery and performance.
  • Develop and qualify alternate sources to reduce supply risk.
  • Support supplier selection and new product introduction activities.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Quality to resolve technical and supplier issues.
  • Manage supplier transitions and outsourcing projects.
  • Support inventory reduction and working capital objectives.
  • Conduct supplier business reviews and periodic supplier visits.
  • Ensure compliance with ITAR, export control, and company procurement policies.
  • Analyze purchasing and supplier performance data to drive continuous improvement.
  • Occasional domestic supplier travel (approximately 5 - 10%).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 2 years of purchasing, procurement, or supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supporting MRP-driven manufacturing operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and supplier relationship management skills.
  • Experience using ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-making, work quality, and to reduce costs. The successful candidate must be able to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI-generated outputs.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Aerospace or defense industry experience.
  • AS9100 manufacturing environment experience.
  • Experience supporting machining, metal fabrication, electromechanical, or aerospace supply chains.
  • Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma experience.
  • Oracle ERP experience.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
  • Ability to travel between AMETEK locations as needed.
  • Ability to travel domestically to meet with suppliers.
