Job Summary:

RTDS Technoloiges is looking for a motivated engineering intern to join us for a 4-month Term (May-August) to assist in developing and testing power system models for real-time simulation and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing. The intern will contribute towards creating dynamic models of electrical networks, integrating protection and control schemes, and performing Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing. This role provides hands-on experience with advanced simulation tools and real-time testing methodologies used in modern power systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Learn basic usage of the RTDS Simulator.
  • Validate and enhance the existing formulation for the RTDS faulted transformer model using FEM and magnetic analysis
  • Support the integration of either simulated or physical protection and control systems
  • Participate in executing test scenarios to validate control strategies and system behavior
  • Document test cases and prepare example simulations for demonstration purposes
  • Other duties as may be assigned

Qualifications 

  • Completed at least two years of study in Electrical engineering
  • Experience with RTDS air-core reactor models and Finite Element Programs (FEM)
  • Basic understanding of electrical circuits is required
  • Completed coursework in power systems, electrical machines, or control systems is an asset  
  • Experience with programs such as PSCAD, RSCAD, and/or Simulink preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn
