RTDS Technologies Inc. is seeking a detail‑oriented and motivated CAD Technician Intern to join us for a 4-month Summer Term position (May-August) that will support the Production Department in developing high‑quality internal assembly documentation. Using existing 3D models, the intern will generate clear, accurate assembly drawings, exploded views, and work instructions that help streamline production processes. This role includes close collaboration with production staff to understand real‑world assembly steps and ensure documentation accurately reflects shop‑floor practices. The intern will gain hands‑on experience with SolidWorks, manufacturing workflows, and engineering documentation standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create assembly drawings, exploded views, and documentation using SolidWorks.
  • Develop standardized templates for production assembly instructions.
  • Work closely with production technicians and supervisors to understand assembly procedures.
  • Verify that documentation aligns with actual manufacturing practices through on‑floor observation.
  • Assist with minor CAD updates and part revisions
  • Other duties as may be assigned. 

 

Qualifications 

  • Completion of at least one to two years in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, CAD Technology, or a related technical program.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks (part modeling, assemblies, drawings).
  • Understanding of mechanical components, tolerances, and assembly fundamentals.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to present technical information clearly.
  • Good communication skills and willingness to collaborate with production staff.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Experience with manufacturing or fabrication environments considered an asset.
  • Experience creating technical drawings or work instructions is an asset.
