Job Summary
The Application Engineers at RTDS Technologies Inc. are responsible for developing expertise in a focus application area with the goal of becoming domain experts on the simulation, testing, analysis, and support of the application. Part of a multidisciplinary team, work closely with power systems engineers, hardware/software/firmware engineers, and business developers.
Position Responsibilities
- Develop expertise in a focus application within power systems, and all related RTDS products – hardware/software/firmware.
- Develop and document example cases of simulation cases related to various applications of the RTDS. This will require keeping up to date with the latest technologies and techniques being applied in today’s modern power systems.
- Development & Documentation of training modules, application notes and online tutorials.
- Participation in industry trade shows and international conferences.
- Investigate global market opportunities. Translate the opportunities into product requirements. May include the initiation of internal Project Charters as a Project Lead for internal review and approval.
- Support Sales Mgmt function on a global basis to present value propositions to customers.
- Collaborate with stakeholders (sales, customers, and R&D), from initial concept to product introduction in developing product applications.
- Work with R&D to develop specific models for applications using RTDS simulation software tool, RSCAD.
- Participation with professional working groups within power system application field. Writing and presenting technical papers at industry conferences.
- Present at webinars to promote the applications of the RTDS.
- Provide simulation support to RTDS customers (by email and/or telephone) as domain expert in application field.
- Participate as an instructor for training courses related to application field held at RTDS Technologies office.
- Lead field training, installation and commissioning of RTDS simulators at customer sites and provide instruction on its operation.
- Test new RTDS software functions and features as they are developed and implemented.
- Travel (domestic & international) approx. 15%.
- Other duties as may be assigned
Qualifications
- Minimum University Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience, with emphasis in power systems and/or power electronics.
- 2 years’ experience of hands on experience in power systems/power electronics.
- Experience with programs such as PSCAD, RSCAD, MATLAB, preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to travel.
- Proficiency in programming languages. (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java)
- Strong technical training, speaking, writing, and customer service skills.
- Ability to direct daily work activities with minimal supervision.
- Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
