Job Description:
The Test Equipment Engineer is responsible for the design, programming, integration and troubleshooting of various electronic and electro-mechanical aerospace electronic component test systems. This plant is part of the larger Sensors and Fluid Management Systems Business Unit within the Measurement and Power Systems Division of AMETEK Aerospace and Defense.
This position reports directly to the Sr Test Equipment Engineer.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the uptime, troubleshooting, and sustainment of production test equipment, including rapid response to system failures impacting manufacturing operations
- Assist in the design, development, and support of Automatic and Manual Test Equipment and tools for Avionics and aircraft sensors
- Coordinate and manage calibration activities, ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements
- Interface with equipment vendors and service providers for troubleshooting, upgrades, and calibration support
- Work with manufacturing and design engineers to develop new/automated testing procedures
- Demonstrated technical background is desired, as the candidate would be responsible for co-developing new test sets as well as updating legacy test apparatus and migrating manual test methods to ATE
- Exposure to best practices, e.g. lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, JIT, PMP and/or IMS Certifications etc. is a plus
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related STEM field desired
- 5+ years of experience as an engineer in a technical manufacturing/engineering environment with experience in test methods and software
- Solid working knowledge of automated test systems, data acquisition, and control software
- Experience supporting, maintaining, and troubleshooting production test equipment
- Strong knowledge of electrical components and circuitry
- Experience creating comprehensive, detailed documentation of test systems, including schematics, diagrams, and thorough written descriptions sufficient to support troubleshooting, maintenance, and system replication
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, production environment
- Strong analytical thinking, problem solving, and communications skills with attention to detail
- Due to the nature of SFMS programs and products, applicants must have the legal right to work in the US and additionally must be legally authorized to access export-controlled information and source code.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with LabVIEW and/or HTBasic (strongly preferred)
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting integrated test systems (electrical, instrumentation, fluid, thermal)
- Understanding of thermal and cryogenic system interactions
- Experience designing, developing, or upgrading automated test equipment
- Experience reverse engineering legacy systems and generating documentation
- Familiarity with industry-standard data acquisition and communication hardware
- Experience working with vendors for equipment troubleshooting and upgrades
- Exposure to lean manufacturing / continuous improvement methodologies
- Experience in aerospace, sensors, or regulated manufacturing environments
- Ability to understand, troubleshoot, maintain and repair integrated test systems, including electrical/instrumentation, fluid and pressure control systems (e.g., pressure controllers, boosters, gas distribution), and thermal subsystems (e.g, cryogenics)
