Job Description: 

Position Summary:

This role is responsible for performing a wide variety of shipping, receiving, and quality inspection duties in support of aircraft component maintenance and manufacturing. This includes coordinating efficient shipment processes, verifying incoming materials, and conducting inspections (first article, in-process, final) to ensure compliance with all relevant standards and documentation. The ideal candidate will lead shipping/receiving efforts, support aircraft component quality control, and play a key role in continuous improvement.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Shipping & Receiving:

  • Prepare shipments for postal or commercial conveyance using the most economical and efficient shipping method.
  • Select appropriate containers and pack items to ensure safe delivery.
  • Prepare bills of lading and shipping documentation; verify quantities, destinations, and routing.
  • Receive and unload incoming materials, verify accuracy against purchase orders, and route items accordingly.
  • Resolve receiving discrepancies and process return shipments when necessary.
  • Inspect shipments for damage and report discrepancies or defects to supervisors or purchasing.
  • Trace and resolve issues related to lost or delayed shipments; initiate proof of delivery as needed.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, dollies, and shrink-wrap machines; may drive company vehicle for deliveries.
  • Maintain department records, databases, and generate routine reports.
  • Lock warehouse and set alarms as needed.
  • Train and lead team members performing related shipping and receiving functions.

Inspection & Quality:

  • Perform first article, in-process, receiving, and final inspections of aircraft components and materials.
  • Read and interpret Component Maintenance Manuals (CMM), blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders.
  • Complete First Article Inspection Reports and Conformity Inspection documentation.
  • Inspect parts using hand measurement tools (height gauges, micrometers, dial indicators, etc.).
  • Perform Return to Service determination for aircraft components.
  • Preferred: Program and operate CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) equipment and related software.
  • Effectively communicate inspection findings with shop supervision, engineers, and customer representatives.
  • Ensure compliance with AS9100/9110 Quality Management Systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in shipping/receiving and/or aircraft component inspection.
  • Aviation industry background strongly preferred.

 

Qualifications:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Excel, and ERP systems (e.g., Quantum).
  • Skilled with hand tools and inspection equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T, component-level troubleshooting, and blueprint reading.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Exceptional communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and accuracy.
  • Team-oriented, self-directed, and customer-focused.
  • Must read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Strong ethical work habits and business judgment.
  • Ability to make timely decisions and follow all safety and security protocols.

 

Typical Working Conditions:

  • Primarily indoors in a shop/warehouse environment.
  • Exposure to outdoor temperatures is minimal and limited to movement between buildings or open bay doors.
  • PPE (safety glasses, steel-toed shoes) required in designated work areas.

 

Essential Physical Tasks:

Must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Regularly required to walk, talk, stand, use hands, and reach with arms.
  • Frequently lifts/moves items up to 50 lbs; occasionally up to 100 lbs with equipment or assistance.
  • Must have vision capabilities for close detail, distance, depth perception, and color differentiation.
