Job Description: 

As we expand our operations, we are seeking a Machine Shop Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. In this hands-on role leadership role, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the machine shop, ensuring efficient production processes, maintaining equipment, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This role supports manufacturing by developing machining processes, optimizing tooling, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet production goals and quality standards.

What you will do:

  • Utilize Lean manufacturing methods to reduce costs and improve quality.
  • Using root cause analysis and the scientific method, investigate and resolve product, equipment, and tooling problems.
  • Identify new or additional equipment needs related to existing or new product manufacture.
  • Evaluate new or used equipment to determine benefits and return on investment, ability to maintain the physical and dimensional requirements of components and products, and ability to meet safety and ergonomic requirements.
  • Prepare appropriations for approvals and administrator spending of budgeted dollars.
  • Develop and optimize machining processes for new and existing products.
  • Design and implement tooling and fixtures to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Provide technical support to machinists and shop personnel.
  • Monitor machine performance and coordinate preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Analyze production data to identify areas for improvement and cost reduction.
  • Collaborate with design, quality, and production teams to resolve manufacturing issues.
  • Maintain documentation for process instructions, tooling specifications, and engineering changes.
  • Support training and development of shop personnel in machining best practices.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field preferred; or equivalent years of experience
  • 3+ years of experience in a machine shop manufacturing environment
  • Strong knowledge of CNC machining (Lathes, Swiss Turns, Mills, Hobbing), manual machining, and related equipment
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software
  • Familiarity with GD&T, blueprint reading, and machining tolerances
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies is a plus
  • Experience with MRP systems and shop floor data collection
  • Knowledge of materials and metallurgy relevant to machining
  • Project management experience in a manufacturing setting

Compensation

Employee Type:  Salaried
Salary Minimum:  $70,000
Salary Maximum:  $95,000
