Vision Research is a Business Unit in the Materials Analysis Division of AMETEK, Inc. VRI designs, engineers, and manufactures industry leading high-speed digital cameras. Our cameras are primarily sold into industrial-, academic-, defense- and government- research facilities. Position Summary:
This position will specifically involve the exploration into the scientific application of phantom cameras. This could involve hands-on camera work, script development for image analysis, proof-of-concept optical designs, and/or troubleshooting/testing. You would work within a very diverse, energetic, and welcoming team of engineers and physicists that have unique scientific backgrounds and skillsets. You will take part in research projects that will turn into a public facing technical article(s) and/or publication(s).
What type of person are we looking for? We are looking for a positive, energetic, and hardworking person who has a real passion for science and learning. Having a background in digital imaging, together with some coding experience is a plus. We generally aim to hire engineering- or physics- minded senior undergrads OR grad students, who have a history of demonstrated interest in scientific imaging, image analysis, and/or engineering processes.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Learn and master the operation of a Phantom high speed camera to collect high speed video data
- Extract motion data from collected high speed video data and write technical reports about the data
- Collaborate with the other Applications team members to help build integrated high-speed camera rigs
- Work as a team member to help solve difficult high speed imaging related problems
- Test and validate a range of different types of digital imagers to determine most suitable
Position Requirements:
- Undergraduate or Graduate level with Scientific or Engineering focus, preferably with a specialization in image processing.
- Understands programming concepts and has a history of applying them.
- Dependable, driven, teachable person with good work ethic.
- Some existing knowledge of digital imagery/optical systems is required.
- Technical knowledge of digital imaging, camera technology, optical systems, oscilloscopes, & function generators is desirable.
- Capacity to be autonomous, think out of the box and be creative when facing difficult or unusual situations, but not hesitant to ask questions.
