AMETEK is seeking a Manufacturing Process Engineer to support our Waterbury, CT facility. This role performs a wide range of duties to analyze, develop, and improve manufacturing processes, including operational sequence, tooling, methods, equipment, and controls, to efficiently meet quality and production requirements. The position reports directly to the Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor and collaborates closely with cross-functional teams.
What you will do:
- Utilize Lean manufacturing methods to reduce costs, shorten lead times, and improve quality. Provide technical assistance to manufacturing, engineering, and materials planning teams to eliminate unnecessary operations and clarify process instructions.
- Use root cause analysis and the scientific method to investigate and resolve product, equipment, and tooling issues. Identify requirements for new or additional equipment supporting existing or new product manufacturing. Evaluate new or used equipment to determine benefits, return on investment, capability to maintain physical and dimensional requirements, and compliance with safety and ergonomic standards. Prepare capital appropriations for approval and manage the spending of budgeted funds.
- Design manufacturing processes and product flow around continuous flow and Lean principles, considering process capability and Statistical Process Control (SPC).
- Assist the Engineering/Manufacturing Manager in preparing capital investment and expense budgets related to the addition or modification of equipment aligned with short- and long-term business needs.
- Design and implement fixtures and tooling to support and improve manufacturing and production processes.
- Lead and execute operational excellence initiatives and other projects aimed at achieving division objectives.
- Collaborate closely with domestic and international cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, engineering, supply chain, and sales.
We are looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in an applicable engineering field (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related discipline) required.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in the aerospace industry and familiarity with ITAR-compliant products required.
- Strong knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles, manufacturing processes, machine shop practices, and electro-mechanical systems. Familiarity with machine tool operations, assembly, inspection, and material flow. Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement in a high-mix production environment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, electrical diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and company procedures.
- Ability to design fixturing and create drawings using SolidWorks, with consideration for DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) and ergonomics. Solid understanding of manufacturing tolerances and GD&T.
- Ability to develop and implement work instructions in written and diagram formats. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple variables in both standardized and non-standardized situations. High level of accuracy and accountability required, with a strong emphasis on standardized work.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
