Job Description: 

This senior technology position is responsible for creating the overall systems architecture and future roadmaps for the ongoing development of the SmartView™ and SmartAdvisor™ Product lines as well as all future offerings. This is a Senior Research & Development role, key characteristics of which includes: Leadership, Mentoring, Inspiring People to Succeed and Teamwork under a long-range sustainable software and systems architecture roadmap. The incumbent will maintain relationships with sales, product management, operations and technology/engineering colleagues located around the world. Working with the Director of Software Engineering, the incumbent will evaluate changes in operating systems, changes in the competitive landscape (technology focus) and testing protocols in adjusting the technology development roadmap accordingly. The incumbent will also assume the role of Surface Vision's Thought Leader, representing the company at Innovation Roundtables and Industry Committees helping craft the standards of the future that promote Surface Vision technical offerings.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the technical architecture of all products within the portfolio, with input from the Director, Software Engineering and Product Management.
  • Creating the long-term strategic roadmap for systems development, single sources of truth, modernisation of existing software code, de-risking of code development and industry recognised testing practices and protocols to drive a quality culture.
  • Work with Technology Managers (Software & Hardware) and Product Management to create strategies to deliver powerful solutions with longevity (approx. 15-years lifetime) and guide technology teams on technology strategies related to coding practices, continuous integration and automated deployment.
  • Support the sustainment of product lines through flexibility and by adapting to market changes, penetrating new markets, and addressing competitor offerings.
  • Identify Risks and Issues in the Product Lifecycle including obsolescence and how to maximise profitability through added functionality.
  • Through thought-leadership, help drive an evolution in digital thinking and how future Surface Vision Offerings will form part of AI, Deep Learning and the IoT 4.0, positioning the company for long-term growth.
  • Drive culture change within the organisation through coaching and training sessions, in conjunction with the overall transformation and change-management strategy.

 

Required Education & Experience:

  • Master's degree or PhD (preferred) in engineering or a technical science discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • 15 or more years of progressive technical experience.
  • Can make architecture decisions at a product and product portfolio level.
  • Familiar with production Microsoft Azure DevOps environments, C++, .NET, Microsoft Visual Studio (+).
  • Experience in Agile Development, with specific Solution Architect (or similar) experience preferred.
  • Deep Agile product development experience with proficient knowledge of multi-team Agile delivery models.
  • Experience managing technical priorities within the Backlog across a portfolio of products.
  • Embraces a culture of trust, free thought, complete transparency.
  • Strong technology background, with product development or product marketing experience.
  • Understanding of Surface Vision's long and short-term business objectives.
  • Strong PC and presentation skills (both oral and written).
  • Be able to work independently and regularly provide status progress reporting.
  • Salary Exempt position – hours over 40 per week can be expected.

Compensation

Employee Type:  Salaried
Salary Minimum:  $170,000
Salary Maximum:  $200,000 +
Incentive:  Market
