Job Summary:

The Senior Product Line Manager (PLM) role has full product level responsibility including and not limited to P&L responsibility at a product level for the entire UPS line of products at IntelliPower.

The  Senior PLM is responsible for the concept to end-of life product marketing activities for assigned products and/or product lines. This includes providing competitive analyses, properly positioning and promoting products in the market, defining product features and options, and coordinating, as necessary, product continuous improvement or corrective actions.

This role requires leading all marketing efforts working cross functionally with sales, engineering and operations to ensure that assigned products are defined and supported in such a manner that customers perceive the value and desirability of the products in the customers’ applications. We are looking for this role to be based in our San Diego, CA office, but are open to remote, fully remote, or hybrid arrangements for the right candidate. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Capable of establishing relationships with key customers in order to get VOC input on new product concepts.
  • Capable of studying and understanding our products and researching our competition’s products.  From this analysis, define the advantages and pitfalls from the field of available solutions and define potential new products.
  • The PLM is the architect of the product roadmap for the business. Responsibilities include the definition, creation and execution of his or her defined product area of responsibility.  Has an ability to articulate a strategic plan that is logical, appropriate with the given the business climate and is data driven.
  • The PLM is responsible for owning the new product and continually reviewing assumptions and processes to assure that the new product will be successful both technically (performance and reliability) and financially.
  • The Product Line Manager has the responsibility to review assigned products pricing relative to margins and competitive products making price change recommendations to support product price list update schedule.
  • The PLM works closely with sales, engineering, and others to provide definition of new products including technical requirements, competitive analysis, specifics of markets served, expected multi-year sales forecast, return on investment and project justifications.
  • The PLM provides participation in the new product development (NPD) and launch process with primary authorship responsibilities for Concept Approval request (CA) and marketing requirements documents (MRDs).
  • A core capability to this role is commercial touch and business acumen where the PLM will lead technical and commercial discussions with customers in the appropriate setting as it relates to new product engagement or “voice of the customer” market research.
  • The PLM provides marketing application support for assigned products. This may include the research and write up of application notes and marketing bulletins as well as participation with field sales personnel to determine cost effective solutions for customer challenges.
  • The PLM has primary responsibility for marketing launch activities for new or updated products. This includes, user manual generation support, ads, sales training, press releases, marketing collateral materials and other activities as defined in the launch plan.
  • The PLM supports departmental market research activities including assignments to become “resident expert” on assigned market segments. This would include market size, primary applications, technical requirements, and trends affecting the use of AMETEK IntelliPower products.
  • The PLM has responsibility to review modified standard product requests for technical and financial feasibility including return on investment criteria. The PLM determines if there is a business case based on projected development cost, engineering opportunity costs, sales forecast of such special engineering request.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 10 years of technical application, customer support or sales experience, or an equivalent  combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the role effectively.
  • Due to the nature of IntelliPower’s programs and products, applicants must have the legal right to work in the U.S. and additionally must be legally authorized to access export-controlled information and source code.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Product management experience, including but not limited to leading new product introductions and stage gate review processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide a high-level customer touch while using solid judgment advancing an issue to closure.
  • Ability to present an issue with a respective solution to senior management in a clear, concise manner.
  • Detail-oriented and well organized.
  • Positive, optimistic, attitude; enjoys communicating with clients via phone, email, in-person
    Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with ability to present technical concepts in a clear manner to internal and external customers.
  • Highly committed to understanding the customer perspective
  • Experience using and developing ATE test systems including test program development using LabView, LabWindows/CVI, Visual Studio or similar Integrated software development tools is a plus.
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision and using knowledge of pre-established guidelines and instructions to perform the tasks required.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership from personal technical experience to resolve open technical issues with the product and the client application including hardware, software, and firmware problems.
  • Ability to lead junior staff in troubleshooting and diagnosis of client application issues and product technical issues including hardware, software, and firmware problems
  • Prior military experience.
  • Work experience in related industry.
