Are you ready to improve how complex precision systems are built while partnering with global engineering and operations teams?

At Zygo, your expertise will directly support our core values of curiosity, collaboration, and persistence. For over 50 years, Zygo Corporation, an AMETEK division, has been a global leader in advanced optical metrology systems and ultra‑precise optical components and assemblies. Our products enable customer success across industries including semiconductor manufacturing, aerospace and defense, medical, and industrial applications.

We are seeking a Manufacturing / Quality Engineer to support mechanical assembly operations for precision optical inspection equipment at our Taiwan manufacturing site. This role blends hands‑on manufacturing engineering, applied quality disciplines, structured problem‑solving, and limited supplier quality support, with a strong emphasis on execution, process robustness, and cross‑site collaboration.

You will work closely with local Operations and Production teams while maintaining a strong connection with Manufacturing Engineering and Quality leadership at Zygo headquarters in Middlefield, CT. This position is ideal for a factory‑focused engineer who enjoys improving how products are built, resolving quality issues at the source, and collaborating across global teams.

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing Engineering & Process Support

  • Provide day‑to‑day manufacturing engineering support for mechanical assembly of precision optical inspection equipment.
  • Improve manufacturing processes, assembly methods, fixturing, and product flow to enhance quality, efficiency, and repeatability.
  • Develop, update, and maintain work instructions, assembly procedures, and process documentation aligned with factory best practices.
  • Support production ramp‑ups, engineering changes, and sustaining manufacturing activities.
  • Partner with Operations and Production teams to resolve assembly issues and improve manufacturability.

Quality Engineering & Problem Solving

  • Lead or support root cause investigations for manufacturing quality issues, nonconformances, and customer‑reported defects.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions that address true root cause and drive long‑term process stability.
  • Apply risk‑based quality tools such as PFMEA and control strategies as part of process ownership.
  • Participate in MRB (Material Review Board) activities, supporting data‑driven disposition and corrective actions.

Supplier Quality Support

  • Support the resolution of supplier‑related quality issues impacting manufacturing.
  • Coordinate containment, investigation, and corrective actions for incoming or in‑process supplier nonconformances.
  • Communicate effectively with suppliers and internal stakeholders on technical and quality topics.
  • Provide manufacturing and quality feedback to support supplier performance improvement.

Quality Systems & Process Discipline

  • Support execution and continuous improvement of the site’s quality management system.
  • Ensure inspection methods, measurement practices, and calibration requirements are implemented and sustained.
  • Support internal audits and corrective action follow‑up in alignment with global quality standards.

Cross‑Site & Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Operations, Production, Engineering, and Quality teams at the Taiwan site.
  • Maintain strong collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering and Quality teams in Middlefield headquarters.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively across sites, cultures, and time zones.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 3–8 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, or a hybrid role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Hands‑on experience supporting mechanical assembly processes, preferably for precision or complex equipment.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, including root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Fluent English communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Comfort working in a global, matrixed organization with cross‑site collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with precision optics, optical instrumentation, or opto‑mechanical assemblies.
  • Exposure to supplier quality or supplier engineering activities.
  • Working knowledge of PFMEA, SPC, Lean, or Six Sigma tools.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems.
  • Experience supporting global manufacturing operations or distributed supply chains.
