Job Summary:
The CNC Machine Programmer / Operator is responsible for planning, programming, setting up, and operating advanced CNC and manual milling and turning equipment to manufacture low‑volume, high‑complexity aerospace hardware. This role has primary ownership of CNC programming and setup for large, multi‑axis machining centers and works closely with engineering, assembly, production planning, and quality teams to improve manufacturability, product quality, cost, and delivery performance.
The position operates in a project‑driven, build‑to‑order environment and plays a critical role in continuous improvement, technical problem solving, and knowledge sharing within the machining function.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program, set up, and operate 3‑, 4‑, and 5‑axis CNC machining centers using Mastercam CAD/CAM software.
- Develop machining strategies for complex, tight‑tolerance aerospace components, including large‑format, high‑horsepower multi‑axis equipment.
- Set up and operate manual and CNC milling and turning equipment as required.
- Design, build, and implement fixtures, including vacuum fixtures, to ensure efficient, repeatable, and safe machining processes.
- Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, and work instructions to ensure accurate execution of parts.
- Partner with design engineers and assembly personnel to improve product design, manufacturability, and downstream assembly and inspection requirements.
- Utilize advanced metrology and inspection equipment (e.g., FARO Arm, Laser Tracker, CMMs) to verify part conformance.
- Communicate work order and project status with production planners, including program readiness, tooling, fixtures, materials, and capacity constraints.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues related to quality, cost, schedule, safety, and workflow.
- Maintain ownership of machine tools, cutting tools, tooling systems, lubrication systems, and preventive maintenance activities.
- Support procurement, assembly, testing, and shipping activities associated with a low‑volume, high‑mix production environment.
- Recommend process improvements, tooling upgrades, and capital investments to enhance capability, efficiency, and quality.
- Train, mentor, and support other machinists and operators on equipment, programming standards, and best practices.
- Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma efforts.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on machining experience on multi‑axis CNC milling equipment.
- Demonstrated CNC programming experience using Mastercam or equivalent CAM software.
- Strong working knowledge of FANUC controls (31i or similar).
- Proficiency with CAD software; SolidWorks preferred.
- Solid understanding of machining principles, tooling, fixturing, feeds and speeds, and GD&T.
- Ability to independently troubleshoot machining, tooling, and process issues.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, production, and quality teams.

- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working in aerospace or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma methodologies.
- Exposure to large‑format or high‑horsepower multi‑axis machining centers.
- Experience with CMM inspection and material handling equipment (e.g., forklifts).
