Job Description: 

Direct reports:

Will provide Leadership for cell employees on a day-to-day basis but will not formally have direct reports.

Scope of Role:

Working closely with the Section Leader and Planner, to take ownership for scheduling work through their area of responsibility and provide leadership for the people in that area.  Be responsible for monitoring manufacturing performance against agreed QCD metrics using best practice. Take responsibility for organising and providing where necessary all required training within their area and take the active lead in monitoring and guiding their team on business performance and information.

 

Main Duties/Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to team members to realise the cell objectives and production targets.
  • Record, monitor and advise on production performance as a part of the QCD metrics.
  • Communicate any manufacturing performance issues to the Cell Leader as soon as they are known.
  • Attend regular team meetings to share information with the team members, and when required provide oral feedback on the performance of the Cell to the management team.
  • Wind, assemble, and install wire coils for electric rotors, stators, armatures and related components by hand and/or by machine.
  • Assemble parts from subcomponents following drawings, work instructions, and inspection requirements.
  • Perform tests for mechanical reliability, including core loss, hi-pot, phase balance, and rotational direction.
  • Inspect and assess products to determine if re-work or repairs are necessary.
  • Use soldering equipment to perform thru-hole, surface mount, or hard soldering.
  • Measure dimensions and clearances of parts using precision instruments.
  • Operate hand tools and machinery required for assembly.
  • Maintain a quality culture within the Cell, not only with the products but with the required paperwork.
  • Be responsible for liaising with the Cell Leader in the training of staff and maintaining skills matrices, giving regular feedback on progress to the management team.
  • Continuously review processes and recommend or implement improvement activities.
  • Highlight any manufacturing engineering changes to the Cell Leader e.g. updates to batch travellers/routings, drawings or test procedures.
  • Ensure all Health & Safety procedures are complied with and in consultation with the management team, ensuring all equipment is safe to use, calibrated and regularly maintained.
  • Ensure time attendance system is kept up to date and accurate for the Cell with all the relevant paperwork in place. 
  • Working with the Cell Lead to approve holiday and unpaid absence.
  • Deputise for the Cell Lead including attendance at production meetings.

 

Other Responsibilities/Non-essential Functions

  • Undertake training that is identified as a requirement of the role as identified by the Cell Leader.
  • Undertake all other reasonable requests that are made by the role manager/acting manager or Directors.
  • At times of reduced department staff attendance there will be a need to be flexible and provide support outside of the normal tasks of the job to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • On occasion you may be required to take on ad hoc duties which includes, but is not limited to training, department associated tasks and brief secondment to other departments.

 

Professional Knowledge & Experience:

 

  • Previous experience in electro mechanical winding is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and SOPs.
  • Soldering skills on small components .
  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Basic understanding of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems independently.
  • Able to read, write and understand English.
