Location:
Based at Sunbury-on-Thames.
Occasional UK and foreign travel to visit customers/suppliers and other AMETEK businesses.
Direct reports:
- Total of 4 direct reports, Principal Engineer Electromagnetics, Electromagnetics Engineer, Project/Mechanical Engineer, Technician.
Scope of Role:
- Management and direction of staff
- Ownership and delivery of New Technology development projects and Prototype development projects
- Ownership and delivery of the Electromagnetics design and test activities
- Technical support to wider Engineering team based at Sunbury and Bangalore
- Support business development activities such as proposal writing and customer discussions.
- Generate and implement ideas in support of the technology and product roadmaps, and strategic plans.
Role Responsibilities:
- Manage the development and delivery of new technology and prototype projects to meet the performance, cost, quality, and delivery requirements of the customer or internal to Airtechnology.
- Manage the engineering resources to deliver the New Technology and Prototype development activities.
- Manage the engineering resources to deliver the electromagnetic solutions required by the Engineering Department
- Interpret requirement specifications and interface effectively with other disciplines to contribute to an overall coherent design process.
- Develop and maintain the engineering capability (skills, tools, test equipment) to meet the strategic objectives of the organisation.
- Work with the other Engineering Managers to share resources as applicable to provide required skill sets or expertise.
- Collaborate with wider Engineering team at Sunbury and Bangalore in establishing, developing, and delivering the technology and product roadmaps
- Provide technical proposals, project costings and development plans for new opportunities, working with the wider Engineering and Programmes team.
- Develop strong technical relationships with the customer base.
- Provide technical support during customer visits.
- Support the annual budget preparation.
- Undertake the annual staff appraisal process including SMART objective setting and identification of training needs
- Manage new employees through the probation review process.
- When required, support recruitment including candidate interviews and selection.
Person Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical & Electronics Engineering, or closely related discipline. Post graduate technical qualification preferred.
- Experience of 7 years or more with increasing technical responsibility for New Technology and/or Prototype Product development for high integrity products and systems containing some of the following: electro-mechanical components, motors, fans, fluid mechanical components, actuators
- Demonstrated experience of effective team management
- Strong technical depth in specific sub-discipline areas, and good breadth of understanding across most engineering disciplines
- Strong ability to draw conclusions from data analysis to make robust, informed design decisions
- Strong ability to present technical information effectively to groups of 10 to 50 people and communicate effectively at all levels of the business.
