Job Title: Project Engineer

The Project Engineer will work closely with the Sales and Project Management team to support company growth through uncovering and securing project opportunities with new and current customers. This position is pivotal to our business process and plays an important role in offering engineering, company and customer expertise. The key to success as a Project Engineer is the ability to formulate an effective technical strategy which allows for winning projects, achieving acceptable profitability, and ensuring successful project execution. The Project Engineer will contact clients to evaluate quote opportunities and establish design strategyfor a broad range of customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Review specifications to successfully quote Scope, Schedule, and Cost of project
- Clarify client needs regarding scope of work, project schedule, and project specifications after RFQ is received.
- Source and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors for material costing
- Complete project costing of projects for O’Brien products/services
- Collaborate with Project Manager to create client proposal documents and formulate a competitive offer strategy.
- Participate in departmental reviews on assigned projects.
- Assist Manager with completion of strategic initiatives.
- Participate in quote review meetings as well as project kick off meetings in person, via teleconference and/or email
- Personally manages technical design on multiple projects of large size/complexity.
- Has total project responsibility for 10-20+ projects.
- Works with a team of Project Engineers, designers and technicians in executing projects in his/her portfolio.
- Provides technical direction.
- Knows and understands O’Brien business dynamics and quotes leadtimes accordingly.
- Travel to customer locations for technical support/training (<10% travel).
- Consistently meets customer and internal deadlines.
Position Requirements: Education and/or Experience
- 5-10 years of related experiences as a project engineer, applications engineer, sales engineer, estimating, preferably with industrial and/or manufacturing applications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Previous experience communicating technical concepts with client and ability to generate good dialogue with clients and with team members
- Ability to quickly adapt approach and style when working with customers and team members
- Ability to complete calculations such as area, circumference, unit conversions, and simple financial calculations such as gross margin
- Ability to self-manage time and workload, work independently to meet deadlines
- Ability to work in a fast paced, constantly changing environment
- Ability to properly prioritize tasks and work under pressure
- Ability to adapt to different personality styles
Language Skills
- Ability to create well-written, grammatically correct documents
- Effective communications skills to ensure good dialogue internally and with clients
- Comfortable while speaking with clients about technical concepts as well as conflict management
- Good follow up and customer service skills
- Computer Skills
- Microsoft Office with Excel knowledge
- AutoCad is a plus
- Ability to learn and adapt to site specific software programs.
