Job Title: Product Engineer - Gearing

As a Product Engineer - Gearing, you will be responsible for providing engineering and technical support for our industry-leading gearmotor product line. This will require and utilize technical expertise around gearing and other mechanical components to ensure our products are high quality, reliable, and manufacturing-optimized. This role supports a very broad product range and will give you opportunities to get involved with production support, new designs and design changes, VAVE, testing and qualification support, and many other areas with great potential for growth.
This is an onsite position preferably at our St. Charles, Illinois site. This position can also be open to either our Kent, Ohio or Whitsett, North Carolina sites as well.
What you will do:
- Analyze and evaluate existing gear and mechanical component designs. This includes GD&T, tolerance stackups, and more
- Conduct design and stress calculations for existing gear designs and for minor changes. Work will primarily be in accordance with AGMA specs and imperial dimensions, but familiarity with DIN standards is useful
- Create, update, and review drawings and other technical and product documentation
- Provide manufacturing support and process feedback to ensure production meets design intent and requirements
- Evaluate and provide feedback on gear and CMM inspection reports. Familiarity and ability to inspect gears is a plus
- Coordinate with and support our manufacturing sites, as well as with our global supply chain to ensure quality and on-time delivery. You’ll be working across multiple time zones, so flexibility and timeliness will be critical
- Provide design input and support for new gearmotor products
- Perform and guide testing of motors and gearmotors, to support qualification, comparison, and validation efforts
- Drive individual tasks for timely completion and successfully work as part of project teams. You’ll be supporting multiple projects, so time management skills and a strong drive and sense of urgency are critical
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical or similar field) from an accredited college or university
- At least 3 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated and in-depth knowledge of gearing and AGMA calculations. Preference for solid understanding of both the manufacturing process and for design calculations
- Ability to read and interpret gear inspection data and reports
- Ability to ensure alignment of design intent and manufacturing processes
- Ability to clearly communicate with a wide range of audiences, at multiple locations, and across different time zones
- Ability to understand and operate motor test equipment
Additional characteristics:
- Ability to travel occasionally to manufacturing sites and vendors
- Must have demonstrated sound interpersonal skills including interactions with global team members
