As the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager, you will be accountable for EHS programs and systems for the Bridgeport and Southington, CT facilities, Provide professional EHS expertise to meet OSHA, US EPA, US DOT, similar State and municipal regulatory agencies. Daily responsibility for the continuous improvement of all Company EHS activities through the implementation of EHS programs and process improvements, leadership development and individual employee EHS training. The primary focus of all Company EHS activities is the establishment of an “Injury-Free Workplace Culture” the continual reduction of risks, the implementation of best practices, world class EHS performance programs and systems.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide professional EHS expertise and leadership to deliver a robust and sustainable EHS culture for the Business, with a passion for improvement and reduction of risk.
- Identify and assess risks throughout the AMETEK Bridgeport and Southington, CT facilities. Develop and implement control measures consistent with an injury-free and zero environmental incidents culture that includes the relentless pursuit of engineered solutions such as automation, hands-free work and ergonomic improvements.
- Lead and manage all AMETEK Bridgeport and Southington, CT EHS programs and systems to ensure worker safety complies with all applicable regulatory and company standards, must operate with credibility and unquestioned integrity as an EHS technical expert, overseeing consultants/contractors with the ability to implement EHS solutions.
- Coach, lead, mentor, train, and develop managers, supervisors and employees to achieve EHS objectives and to support individual employee EHS knowledge and development. Develop and implement training programs to ensure all workers have current EHS knowledge to meet company expectations and adhere to required training calendar requirements.
- Recognizes and responds with immediate focused efforts and/or involves others when needed, in response to changes in conditions and acts with urgency and when appropriate, takes charge, to address upset/non-compliance conditions.
- Fully and passionately aligned with the company philosophy that working safely is a condition of employment; willing to implement and enforce policies accordingly.
- Regularly conduct Plant EHS audits and assess Plant EHS Risks. Identify and implement changes to mitigate any risk, improve EHS programs, increase the effectiveness of all EHS programs and, where prudent, improve production efficiency and reduce operating cost.
- Is the Subject Matter Expert and Owner of the BU incident management/tracking system which includes the capture, documentation, tracking of corrective actions identified in observations, near miss, and injury incident programs.
- Responsible for annual/periodic audits and reviews of all corporate and divisional EHS programs. Responsible for all location compliance registry elements and notifies management when additional resources are needed to meet compliance requirements.
- Responsible for the timely and accurate completion and submittal of regulatorily required, daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual EHS logs/reports, and communicates applicable performance and trends to align with EHS compliance metrics and benchmarks.
- Understands and leads the site to maintain compliance with permit mandated requirements of programs such as hazardous waste disposal (RCRA), storm and industrial wastewater discharge (NPDES), air emissions (Title V, Air Quality) and any applicable remediation programs.
- Serves as the primary contact for all regulatory agencies, inspectors, permit officials etc. Is a member of the Bridgeport and Southington, CT Leadership Team in the event of a significant site accident or environmental incident. With the support of the site leadership team, is the Bridgeport and Southington, CT subject matter expert to ensure compliance with Company and regulatory standards in the event of an environmental or safety incident.
- Actively participates in Divisional and Corporate programs and collaborates as required with other EHS Pros to ensure alignment with company initiatives, shares best practices, prepares, presents and assists others in sharing incident reviews or training programs on weekly Teams calls.
- Responsible for the management of the Safety Data Sheets system for tracking site chemical use/labeling and shipping compliance. Supports US DOT and International Hazmat shipping directives
- Aligns Bridgeport and Southington, CT EHS initiatives with the Divisional and Corporate Compliance directives and programs and actively supports in that effort as an auditor and supports audit leaders to validate.
- Participates with and ensures operations leadership conducts Management of Change reviews, risk assessments, Job Safety Assessments (JSA) and provides supporting data when new projects or existing equipment/operations are being considered or modified in a significant fashion.
- Strong communication skills with demonstrated experience providing detailed written reports, verbal presentations in virtual platforms and in person, in classroom settings, and in large audience settings on a frequent basis.
- Familiar with and comfortable managing injury claims with injured employees, third party workers comp administrators, overseeing case management to avoid recordable/lost time injury incidents, and where appropriate, promoting application of conservative treatment to provide prompt care for safe, effective return to work strategies.
Position Requirements
- BS/BA - Environmental, Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Applied Science, Civil, Engineering, or similar academic major/or equivalent experience,
- 5 - 10 years of demonstrated EHS leadership and success in a manufacturing environment with an appropriate progression of increased responsibility. Multi-site oversight is preferred, with willingness and ability to travel on a frequent basis between sites. Eligible to be certified as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Environmental Auditor (CEA) or a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH). Expertise in use of tools designed to detect, monitor, and measure environmental/worker exposure and tracking incidents.
- Experience with leading incident investigations and implementation of corrective actions. Knowledge of Behavioral Based Safety and success with cultural improvement, risk assessment and hazard reduction programs.
- Hands-on experience with continuous improvement programs (Lean Six-Sigma etc.is a plus).
- Proven verbal and written communication skills which enable the incumbent to provide effective and meaningful EHS direction and training to Company employees, customers, division and corporate management.
- Demonstrated skills with PC office applications such as MS Word, Excel, Power Point, SharePoint and MS Teams.
