Job Summary: The Cost Accountant in the Finance Department at our global leading manufacturing company plays a crucial role in supporting the financial operations and decision-making processes. This position primarily focuses on manufacturing and commercial topics, with a strong emphasis on adhering to US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Reporting directly to the Director, Business Segment Controller, the Cost Accountant will contribute to the overall financial stability and success of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyse financial statements, ensuring compliance with US GAAP standards. Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, with a strong emphasis on maintaining balance sheet ownership and ensuring accuracy and compliance.

Cost Analysis: Conduct cost analysis for manufacturing and commercial activities, identifying areas for improvement and cost-saving opportunities. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize cost structures and enhance profitability.

Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the development and monitoring of budgets and forecasts for manufacturing and commercial departments. Provide accurate financial projections and support decision-making processes.

Variance Analysis: Analyse and explain variances between actual financial results and budgeted/forecasted figures. Identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and provide recommendations for corrective actions.

Internal Controls: Support the implementation and maintenance of robust internal control procedures. Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Take ownership of the SOX quarterly process, ensuring timely completion with top quality standards. This includes overseeing all aspects of the process, coordinating with relevant stakeholders, and implementing necessary controls to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Act requirements.

Financial Planning and Analysis: Assist in financial planning activities, including long-term strategic planning, investment analysis, and business case evaluations. Provide financial insights and recommendations to drive business growth and profitability.

Process Improvement: Continuously identify opportunities to streamline financial processes, enhance efficiency and improve data accuracy. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement best practices and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Ad hoc Analysis: Conduct ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as required by management. Assist in special projects and initiatives to support the overall financial objectives of the organization.
Knowledge and Skills:

Deep understanding of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and their application within a manufacturing environment.

Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.

Proficiency in cost analysis, financial planning, and investment analysis within a manufacturing and commercial context.

Advanced proficiency in financial modelling, data analysis, and the use of financial software and ERP systems (D365 Finance & Operations)

Expertise in SOX compliance and internal control frameworks, particularly within a manufacturing setting.

High level of competence with Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions, pivot tables, and data visualization techniques.

Exceptional analytical abilities with a keen eye for detail and the capability to identify trends, risks, and opportunities within financial data.

Ability to provide actionable insights and recommendations based on thorough analysis.

Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and strategically to address complex financial challenges.

Experience in process improvement and implementing best practices in financial operations.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders clearly and effectively.

Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, finance, and executive leadership.

Demonstrated ability to lead and manage projects, particularly in the areas of financial control and process improvement.

Experience in mentoring and developing junior finance professionals.
Education/Experience/Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field is required.

A Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration is highly preferred.

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is strongly preferred.

A minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting roles, with at least 5 years in a manufacturing environment.

Extensive experience in cost accounting, financial planning and analysis, and financial reporting within a manufacturing or industrial context.

Significant experience with SOX compliance, internal controls, and financial audits.

Proven track record of leading financial projects and initiatives that result in measurable improvements to financial processes and performance.

Experience in a multinational company or global manufacturing environment is highly desirable.

Indirect leadership is critical in this role.

Dynamic and fast-paced office environment, requiring adaptability to emerging technologies and trends.

This position is primarily office-based with occasional travel to global sites.
