Job Summary:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer performs a wide range of complex non-routine technical mechanical design tasks and mechanical modeling using advanced CAD software. Emphasis on mechanical design of power equipment PCA packaging, rack mounted electronics and enclosures. This involves the use of initiative and judgment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for electro-mechanical design, from concept through production release, of power electronics equipment comprised of complex assemblies of circuit board assemblies, magnetics, heat sinks, power semiconductors, electrical interconnects, and associated enclosures.
- Makes engineering computations, writes specifications and makes adjustments in drawings of specifications.
- Designs product packaging with consideration for low manufacturing cost, low material costs, serviceability and reliability
- Verifies and checks completed work, checking dimensions, materials to be used and quantities.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams to optimize designs and processes.
- Hands on testing and troubleshooting.
- Provides production support.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with electro-mechanical packaging design for electronic assemblies, preferably power supplies, sheet-metal design, generating drawings bills of material and manufacturing documentation.
- Due to the nature of our programs and products, applicants must have the legal right to work in the U.S. and additionally must be legally authorized to access export-controlled information and source code.
Desired Qualifications:
- Proficiency in 3D CAD design using Solidworks, with working knowledge of 2D design using AutoCAD, and knowledgeable of design tolerance analysis and mechanical packaging of electronic equipment, sheet metal design, and drawing and documentation background.
- Proficiency in fabrication processes used in producing sheet metal chassis and structural parts, injection molding of plastics, and machining.
- Experienced with (FEM) Finite Element Modeling (FEA) mechanical stress modeling and thermal analysis/modeling tools.
- Competent in thermal design of cooling systems comprised of power devices and magnetics, heat sinks, and airflow using fans. Competency in liquid cooling is desirable.
- Competent in characteristics in materials and plating, and design practices to prevent corrosion.Creative thinker capable of designing mechanical packaging and layout of electronic assemblies considering equipment cooling and airflow requirements.
- Knowledgeable in applying concepts of (DFM) Design for Manufacturability and (DFA) Design Failure Analysis in design of electro-mechanical assemblies.
- Knowledgeable in analysis and simulation of environmental conditions, such as temperature, humidity, shock and vibration. Competency in mechanical stress analysis and thermal analysis with (FEM) Finite Element Modeling software is desirable.
- Familiar with Gerber files, etc.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, work independently and with little supervision.
- Proficiency in MS PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and simple database applications.

Salary Range:
The annual pay range for this position generally ranges between $105,000-125,000. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance.
