Job Summary:

Through in-depth product knowledge the Senior Applications Engineer is responsible for prioritizing, evaluating, and responding to incoming technical and commercial support requests from customers and our commercial teams.  The required technical support includes but is not limited to troubleshooting, evaluating customer applications and providing product capability assessments, new product recommendations, application integration assistance, customer and internal employee training, and recommendation of product upgrade solutions when applicable. The support offered by the Application Engineering team is administered pro-actively to our customer base through a mix of pre-sale and post-sale activities.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain functional expertise in adapting programmable power supplies to customer’s applications. In addition, work to develop specific market expertise to become a resident expert in a particular segment relevant to our business.
  • Monitors application related trends and requirements providing guidance to our internal teams, partners and clients.  Help feed those trends into our roadmap process through our Product Marketing department.
  • Develop and provide in-depth training, and technical presentations at trade shows and events to educate customers and partners on the company’s products or capabilities. This may also include demoing new product or technologies at a customer site.
  • Assist in articulating our technical value proposition identifying key differentiating capabilities to prospective new customers and solutions partners.
  • Review customer specifications, design requirements, technical approach, and commercial landscape to create customer proposals, and qualify business opportunities.  Record detailed backup to validate the business case.
  • Provides mentorship/guidance on technology trends to clients, partners, and employees (product marketing, sales, management).   
  • Respond to technical inquiries from existing and potential customers in a timely manner.
  • Work alongside and give guidance to product engineering and product marketing to validate and troubleshoot technical issues with respect to specific customer end applications.  In addition, interface with them to validate technical alignment of the approach, costs,  and lead time risks.
  • Develop, integrate, and utilize “Self Help” tools in conjunction with marketing to assist customers in selecting and applying the company’s product into their specific applications. (Ex: Technical notes, White papers, Application notes).  In addition, development of specific content that assists the sales team in expanding their knowledge about an end application with our products at the forefront.
  • Ensure customer issues and customer proposals are responded to, tracked, and closed out in a timely manner along with the commercial team. “Own” the issue.
  • Efficiently lead and mentor junior staff in the pursuits above.
  • Travel locally and globally up to 35% as needed to support company training, diagnosis, service, and applications activity.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering with work experience in related industry.
  • Five years of technical application, customer support or sales experience in the test and measurement industry or comparable experience.
  • Due to the nature of our programs and products, applicants must have the legal right to work in the U.S. and additionally must be legally authorized to access export-controlled information and source code.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide a high-level customer touch while using solid judgment advancing an issue to closure.
  • Ability to present an issue with a respective solution to senior management in a clear, concise manner.
  • Detail-oriented and well organized.
  • Positive, optimistic, attitude; enjoys communicating with clients via phone, email, in-person.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with ability to present technical concepts in a clear manner to internal and external customers.
  • Highly committed to understanding the customer perspective.
  • Experience using and developing ATE test systems including test program development using LabView, LabWindows/CVI, Agilent VEE, Visual Studio or similar Integrated software development tools is a plus, ability to learn is a must.
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision and using knowledge of pre-established guidelines and instructions to perform the tasks required.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership from personal technical experience to resolve open technical issues with the product and the client application including hardware, software, and firmware problems.
  • Ability to lead junior staff in troubleshooting and diagnosis of client application issues and product technical issues including hardware, software, and firmware problems.
  • Prior military experience.

Salary Range:

The annual pay range for this position generally ranges between $100,000 - $130,000. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. In addition, AMETEK provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee assistance program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off.  Bonus Eligible.
