Job Summary

The Senior Electrical Engineer reporting to the Engineering Manager, will lead product validation and regulatory compliance efforts for AC and DC power electronics products. This role manages testing of various products to ensure designs meet safety, Electromagnetic Interference/ Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMI/EMC), mechanical, and environmental standards. Responsibilities include designing test plans, performing component-level troubleshooting on Printed Wire Assemblies (PWAs), authoring formal regulatory reports, and participating in internal and external compliance testing efforts.

 

The role requires close collaboration with global laboratories and cross-functional design teams to oversee compliance throughout the New Product Development (NPD) process. The Senior Electrical Engineer will serve as the primary technical interface for Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs) such as Technical Inspection Association (TÜV).

 

Preferred qualifications include familiarity with NRTL standards and transportation test standards. This position involves travel to external labs and customer sites.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Testing and Troubleshooting

  • Design and execute test plans for EMC testing (Radiated/ Conducted Emissions) and Immunity testing to ensure product safety.
  • Perform and document Design Verification Testing (DVT) as well as thermal testing as part of New Product Development (NPD).
  • Troubleshoot electrical circuits and PCB layouts to identify root cause of test failures.
  • Plan and perform Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT) and Highly Accelerated Stress Screening (HASS) on products to identify operating/ destructive limits and ensure product reliability.
  • Execute Shock and Vibration (Mechanical Stress) testing on electrodynamic shakers to ensure product durability.

Collaboration and Support

  • Lead product evaluations for certification against US, Canadian, and European standards such as Underwriters Laboratories (UL), Canadian Standards Association (CSA), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and European Standard (EN) by coordinating directly with NRTLs.
  • Participate in, lead or support internal and customer regulatory audits.
  • Coordinate product field evaluations from time to time.
  • Author detailed test procedures, comprehensive plans, and formal reports suitable for regulatory review and internal design optimization.
  • Travel to external labs and customer sites.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in the power electronics industry or similar
  • Hands-on experience with lab equipment related to the job.
  • Due to the nature of our programs and products, applicants must have the legal right to work in the U.S. and additionally must be legally authorized to access export-controlled information and source code.
  • Ability to travel 20-30 %.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong proficiency in understanding electrical circuit schematics and diagnosing issues at the component level.
  • Thorough understanding of product safety and compliance certifications like UL, European Conformity (CE), CSA and familiarity with transportation test standards.
  • Experience using automated EMC test software (e.g., Rohde & Schwarz ELEKTRA).
  • Excellent communication skills to act as a technical lead and coordinate with testing laboratories and cross functional design teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a complex business environment
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a larger team.
  • Proficiency with MS Office.
