Job Summary:

The Engineering Manager will manage the technical resources and engineering processes for technical functions within the business unit. Technical functions include Technology Development, Value Engineering, Product Support Engineering and supporting New Product Development. The Engineering Manager will work closely with the teams located in the US and India. In addition, travel to customer locations or international design centers as per the business needs. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in Engineering Product development strategy with Product Management teams and execution of product/technology development as planned in the Product Road Map.
  • Mentor and coach Engineers, build a career/individual development plan for the senior team and help build high performance teams.
  • Establish departmental and individual objectives, ensuring that they are in line with overall business objectives and strategies.
  • Establish and track department budgets, manage internal and external resource expenditures, plan and allocate personnel resources.
  • Responsible for implementation and maintenance of engineering department procedures.
  • Reports on the status and progress of engineering projects.
  • Work together with Product Management team in completing the 4-blockers for engineering development timelines, Manpower estimations and the Capex/Opex spending plans.
  • Work together with Program/Project Managers, establish schedules, and build project teams by identifying/assigning the required skilled engineers including external consultants to kick-start the engineering projects.
  • Follow the NPD processes, participate/lead design reviews, contribute to Stage Gate reviews until the pilot build and Engineering releases are formally signed off.
  • Perform Value Analysis and Value Engineering to bring in the required cost savings into products and increase the product life as per the business needs.
  • Manage the compliance related activities for the products by working with the compliance team and ensure the necessary testing and certifications are in place.
  • Support the Sales and product management teams in assessing special customer requirements and appropriate SER (Special Engineering Requests) are approved prior to the commencement of the projects.
  • Extending support to customer support functions and RMA teams as necessary in resolving field related issues and necessary corrective actions are identified and implemented.
  • Provide support as necessary to NPI and Production teams as required in resolving production issues to ensure the product shipments take place as scheduled.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, specialization in Power Electronics. Master’s degree a plus.
  • 10 years of engineering experience for a global technology organization, preferably in the design of power conversion products.
  • 5 years of experience being a team leader.
  • Due to the nature of our programs and products, applicants must have the legal right to work in the U.S. and additionally must be legally authorized to access export-controlled information and source code.

  • Proven leadership abilities in building highly motivated teams accustomed to achieving excellence in a fast-paced environment.
  • Previous experience leading an engineering team that built successful joint hardware and software products.
  • Experienced with engaging senior management and working across the organization to gain support, challenge obstacles, identify action and establish strategy and vision cross functionally.
  • Must be a strategic thinker who understands and anticipates customer needs, along with market and technology trends, to establish successful ongoing technology strategies and maintain a company’s technology lead over competitors.
  • Proficiency in design of high-frequency, switched-mode power conversion; strong skills in soft-switching and resonant topologies are preferred.
  • Proficiency in design of analog circuits, having high accuracy and stability, using analytically based design methodologies.
  • Proficiency in feedback control theory, with the ability to correlate product performance requirements with feedback control loop implementation.
  • Proficiency in magnetic design: materials selection, core/winding optimization, thermal design, modeling, and practical manufacturing techniques.
  • Competency in high-frequency design techniques for signal integrity, PWB layout, system interface, and EMI control.
  • Competency in the utilization of computer software (Altium, PADS, MatLab, Simulink, PSpice, Mathcad, Excel) in the design process of power and control circuits for schematic capture, modeling and simulation, mathematical analysis, and data manipulation.
  • Competency in design of electronic assemblies: components packaging, environmental constraints, and design for manufacturability, testability, and serviceability.
  • Experienced in digital hardware design as applied to power conversion, including ADC/DAC signal conversion, microcontrollers and programmable logic devices, and high-speed digital communications.
  • Knowledge of design requirements for compliance with domestic and international standards for safety and electromagnetic compatibility.
  • Knowledgeable of real-time, embedded digital control systems is preferred: digital control techniques for power conversion based on DSPs and FPGAs, firmware-implemented control algorithms, high-speed data acquisition, instrumentation buses and protocols for communications, control, and programming.
  • Good interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
