As an Senior Machinist (Work Cell), you will help generate a consistent flow of high-quality work through the High Speed CNC Optical manufacturing department (Work Cell).

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote a safe working environment with strict enforcement of safe practices
  • Drive a culture of excellence, characterized by deep technical competence, creativity, rigorous analysis, data-driven decision making, and collaboration.
  • Work cross functionally with team members in Production Control, Quality Control, R&D, and Engineering to ensure that products are manufactured on time and correctly.
  • Support Risk Management activities to ensure robust and reliable designs.
  • Setup and break down Diamond Turning machines, High Speed generators and polishers, traditional optical shaping equipment and related metrology equipment. Standard products, NPI and R&D.
  • Load parts and programs onto machines and successfully execute operations as directed
  • Handle and clean optical components without downgrading the surfaces
  • Maintain a clean an orderly work environment by following the 6S methodology
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and tooling as well as schedule annual maintenance with vendors
  • Assist with Capital Expenditure proposals to replace aging equipment or expand capabilities or capacity
  • Integrate, troubleshoot and repair complex processes
  • Assist in developing procedures for new products including initiating corrections and improvements. Lead Root Cause Investigations and implement resolutions.
  • Develop new processes to expand capabilities and improve efficiency and quality
  • Assist in the development of quotations and proposals
  • Design and procure process tooling and fixturing
  • Functions with very limited direction or supervision according to build schedule
  • Work with production control to develop production schedule and drive to meet or exceed customer expectations on quality and schedule.
  • Drive department and Zygo KPI’s to meet or exceed budgets.

 

Required Skills:

  • Minimum 10 years experience with High Speed CNC optical manufacturing equipment
  • Minimum 3 years experience Diamond Turning experience preferred
  • Experience with spherical and aspherical optics required
  • Experience with precision optical testing methods such Interferometry, Contact Profilometry, Non-Contact Profilometry required
  • Experience with troubleshooting of complex manufacturing and metrology processes
  • Team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and documentation
  • Careful, well organized and detail oriented
  • Strong computer skills including MS Work, Excel, Solid Works, Diffsys, etc.
  • Strong math skills
  • Must have experience working within a multi-disciplined manufacturing team
  • Must have excellent organizational skills
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills
