The role involves working with CNC milling equipment to manufacture high precision glass components for the Zygo Extreme Precision Optics Group in Richmond, CA. Zygo EPO is a leading edge optics company working in the field of optical component and subsystem design and manufacture to the highest tolerances and requirements in the world. Working from written instructions and drawings, set up and execute jobs requiring precision and attention to detail. Collaborate with supervisor and planning group to meet on-time delivery schedules. Assist in continually improving procedures and methods with a mind toward efficiency.

 

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Operate CNC and non-CNC machines

Set-up and operation of 3, 4 & 5-axis CNC vertical milling centers

Assembly of diamond grinding tools in tool holders and positioning of tools in machine spindles and tools changers

Load, edit and store CNC programs

Write CNC programs to produce accurate and high quality parts

Perform difficult and complex set-ups and operate machine on challenging assignments, from new and unusual to difficult, under minimal supervision with direction from engineering or area supervisor

Fabrication of precision components out of glass and ceramic materials (Zerodur, ClearCeram, Fused Silica, Calcium Fluoride, Silicon, among others)

Handle and clean optical components

Provide guidance and training to lower level personnel

Maintain a clean and orderly work environment by following cleaning schedules and inventory control

Perform maintenance and preventatives maintenance on equipment and tooling

Work with engineering on developing testing methods for new products

 

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

HS Diploma plus 8 or more years related work experience

A.S. Machining Technologies or similar a strong plus

Working knowledge of shop math

Ability to read and interpret drawings

Mechanical ability

Thorough understanding of G-Code

Ability to write CNC programs from complex drawings a plus

Experience with Haas and Siemens controls a plus

Ability to execute complex set-ups requiring unique and non-routine methods

Able to use hand measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.)

Experience in manufacturing environment

Experience with troubleshooting of processes

Experience in writing procedures and shop instructions

Experience with optics preferred but not required

Team player with good communication skills

Careful, well organized and detail oriented

Strong computer skills including MS Word and Excel
