Summary:
The CAD Designer/Drafter is a hands-on, full-time CAD user responsible for creating and maintaining detailed 3D models, drawings, and associated documentation to support the development and manufacturing of handheld and benchtop products that integrate mechanical, electronic, and optical components. This role partners closely with engineering teams to ensure design intent, configuration control, and timely release of accurate deliverables.
Responsibilities:
- Create and revise 3D CAD models, assemblies, and detailed 2D drawings using PTC Creo, including family tables and surfacing, in accordance with internal standards.
- Develop and maintain product structures (BOMs) and CAD data in PTC Windchill, ensuring proper configuration management, versioning, and release workflows.
- Support cross-functional engineering activities by incorporating inputs from mechanical, electrical, and optical teams and resolving CAD-related issues.
- Prepare manufacturing-ready drawings and documentation (dimensions, GD&T where applicable, notes, and revision history) to support prototype builds and production.
- Implement engineering changes (ECR/ECO) by updating models, drawings, and released documentation while maintaining traceability and data integrity.
- Perform self-checks and participate in design reviews to verify accuracy, fit/clearance, and adherence to standards before release.
- Collaborate effectively with engineering and manufacturing teams across sites (e.g., Buffalo, NY and Reynosa, Mexico) to support build readiness and issue resolution.
Technical Qualifications:
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Experience supporting products that integrate electronic, mechanical, and optical components; prior work on handheld and benchtop devices strongly preferred.
- Advanced proficiency with CAD tools—particularly PTC Creo (Parametric). Family tables and surfacing experience required.
- Proficiency with PDM/PLM tools—particularly PTC Windchill.
- Willingness to work as a dedicated CAD contributor (CAD use expected ~100% of the time).
- 10+ years of experience supporting mechanical and electro-mechanical designs in a CAD-focused role.
- Proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office (or equivalent productivity tools).
