Job Description: 

The Assembly Technician (Conformal Coating) is responsible for performing conformal coating processes on electronic assemblies to ensure product protection and reliability. This role includes masking, coating application (dip or manual), demasking, inspection, and touch-up activities in accordance with work instructions, quality standards, and customer requirements.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Perform masking and demasking of printed circuit boards (PCBs) and electronic assemblies using tapes, boots, and custom fixtures.
  • Apply conformal coating using approved methods such as dip coating, selective coating, or manual brush application.
  • Execute touch-up and rework on coated assemblies to meet workmanship standards.
  • Inspect coated products for coverage, thickness, bubbles, bridging, and defects using UV light and magnification tools.
  • Follow detailed work instructions, process specifications, and IPC standards (e.g., IPC-A-610,).
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area in accordance with ESD and FOD control requirements.
  • Ensure proper curing processes are followed (oven or ambient cure as required).
  • Manage materials and chemicals safely, complying with EHS (Environmental, Health & Safety) guidelines.
  • Perform documentation and traceability tasks (process logs, batch records, travelers).
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality, efficiency, and yield.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electronic technician or related field is preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience in electronics assembly or conformal coating processes preferred.
  • Experience with masking, coating, inspection, and rework is a strong advantage.
  • Proficiency in conformal coating techniques: masking, dip coating, spray/manual coating, demasking, and touch-up.
  • Ability to interpret work instructions, engineering drawings, and process specifications.
  • Knowledge of coating materials (acrylic, silicone, urethane, epoxy) and their handling requirements.
  • Skilled in using inspection tools such as UV lamps (black light), microscopes, thickness gauges, and calipers.
  • Understanding of defect identification and rework methods (dewetting, bubbles, bridging, voids).
  • Familiarity with curing methods (thermal, UV, moisture cure).
  • Familiarity with IPC standards (IPC-A-610, IPC-7711/7721) is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of ESD handling requirements.
  • Ability to use inspection tools such as microscopes, and gauges.
  • Team-oriented with effective communication skills.
