Job Description: 

The Junior Metallurgist is responsible for supporting metallurgical projects, process optimization, and product development within our metals manufacturing operations. This role offers hands-on experience across technical, operational, and commercial functions, providing a strong foundation for career progression into advanced technical or customer-facing roles.

 

Key Responsibilities - 

  • Process & Product Improvement: Support projects aimed at improving product quality, optimizing manufacturing processes to reduce scrap, and reducing costs through metallurgical analysis and innovative solutions.
  • Technical Problem-Solving:  Work closely with the Operations team to identify and resolve metallurgical or technical issues using structured root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies.
  • Metallurgical Testing & Analysis: Perform a range of metallurgical tests (e.g., hardness, tensile, impact, corrosion) and microstructural evaluations; analyze results and prepare detailed reports and presentations.
  • New Product Development: Assist in the design, development, and introduction of new metal products, including alloy selection, heat treatment specifications, and validation testing. Work through product introduction to industrialization stages.
  • Technical Investigations: Participate in internal investigations to troubleshoot metallurgical issues, recommend solutions, and implement process improvements.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Prepare accurate technical reports and ensure all product documentation meets industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Customer Support & Commercial Interface: Collaborate with the Commercial team to provide technical expertise during customer interactions, interpret specifications, and resolve metallurgical challenges to ensure customer satisfaction.

 

Essential Requirements - 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science.
  • Familiarity with metallurgical testing methods and laboratory safety practices.
  • Familiarity with stainless steel grades, Titanium alloys, Nickel alloys and corrosion-resistant materials. 
  • A strong understanding of material specifications and testing requirements. 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A practical problem solving approach to ensure an innovated approach to resolving technical and commercial issues. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively across technical and commercial teams.
  • Industrial experience within a manufacturing organisation would be highly desirable.
  • Confident with all Microsoft applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of using Microsoft Copilot would be desirable
  • Willingness and desire to be part of a fast moving, dynamic team, comfortable working under pressure.
  • Strong presentation and excellent communication skills.

  • Successful candidates will be required to achieve a satisfactory result in a background check, drug and alcohol test (specifically hair follicle) and a company medical.
