Job Description: 

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under minimal supervision, responsible for the selection and management of reliable sources of supply to ensure a steady flow of quality product at the lowest possible cost.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Reviews proposals, negotiates prices, recommends suppliers, participates as part of the supplier selection process, creates purchase orders, and reschedules deliveries to changing needs.
  • Responsible for interfacing with supplier base.
  • Responsible for planning and procuring assigned commodities and outside service requirements.
  • Responsible for inventory analysis and forecast analysis for domestic and international markets.
  • Manage supplier backorders.
  • Responsible for due-date maintenance.
  • Responsible for inventory levels for assigned commodities.
  • Organizes pre-purchase meetings to reduce defective product and design cost out of the product. 
  • Acts as a project leader for supplier selection and involves Quality, Design Engineering, Marketing, and/or Manufacturing Engineering, as needed, in the process.
  • Serves as the communication focal point for suppliers.  
  • Assists in cost savings, avoidance, and standardization through negotiation, resourcing, and more effective purchasing practices.  Analyze supplier’s operation to determine factors that affect prices and lead-times with recommendation for potential improvements.
  • Assist suppliers with gauging, prints, and engineering specifications as required.
  • Assist suppliers as required to improve supplier performance rating.
  • Responsible to work with supplier to disposition discrepant material.
  • Responsible for setting standard cost for assigned commodities.
  • Visits to supplier’s facility to investigate their ability to meet quality requirements and delivery capability. 
  • Acts strategically in supply chain evaluation and in managing changes when necessary, especially in cases of worldwide supply.
  • Responsible for setting standard cost.
  • Responsible for results PPV (Purchase Price Variance) for standard cost.
  • Negotiates long-term contract and agreements, in some cases multi-plant and worldwide.
  • Responsible for Purchasing interface with customers on new and existing projects.
  • Responsible for writing commodity-briefing papers.
  • Works with Accounting to resolve invoice discrepancies.

 

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s Degree or a minimum of eight years of job experience in senior level buying positions.  Preferred experience in the orthopedic medical industry.

 

SKILLS:
 

  • An ability to share expertise related to the manufacturing process with clients.
  • Must be a well-organized self-starter with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to work independently
  • Computer literacy and proficiency with Word and Excel a must.
  • Ability to absorb and relay technical details.
  • Must be resourceful and apply critical thinking skills in problem solving, managing multiple tasks, and juggling priorities in a fast–pace environment.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work performed in an office environment.  The noise level in the work environment is usually low.

Compensation

Employee Type:  Salaried
Salary Minimum:  $80,000
Salary Maximum:  $95,000
Incentive:  No
