Job Description: 

SUMMARY OF POSITION: Setup and operation with progressive difficulty of various additive 3D printing machines, CNC equipment, and all secondary post machining operations, ensuring that all required processes are complete to produce parts in compliance to quality and ISO standards.  This position will perform general functions (independently), and advanced function/techniques (with engineering guidance) required for setup and operation of various additive printing machines. This position will operate and utilize various inspection and process control equipment in all areas of operation. The individual must be self-driven, with a high degree of aptitude for fostering a “Safety-First” mindset and practice. The individual will be performing various roles throughout the day, shifting to where the support and activities are needed.  The individual must thrive in a learning environment with a high degree of change. The individual must have a high degree of diligence and impeccable sustained quality compliance. This position’s schedule may require non-standard hour adjustments and weekend activity to restart production printers.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Must foster and practice a “Safety-First” mindset.
  • Performs all functions related to machine preparation and turnaround for DMLS printing machines.
  • Setups and operates additive manufacturing machines, machining centers, and post machining operations, applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machinability of materials and layout techniques.
  • Starts and observes all equipment to detect malfunctions and adjust machine controls or control media, as required.
  • Inspects product utilizing blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished product.
  • Follows proper safety procedures while working with powdered metals.
  • Operates equipment and processes within validated parameters, using validated settings and process controls to assure repeatability of machine performance.
  • Maintains and checks machine readiness to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Completes all essential documentation as required, including process monitoring logs.
  • Follows all policies and procedures and takes safety precautions to reduce risk of injury.
  • Maintains a clean work area and assures safe operation of all equipment.
  • Follows line clearance procedures to ensure product does not get mixed.
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining problems.
  • Maintains lot control of materials/product associated with the manufacturing process.
  • Performs all sub-processes post printing, as required.
  • Accurate and timely completion of daily, weekly, monthly preventive maintenance activities.

 

OCCASIONAL DUTIES: 

  • Assist Manufacturing Engineers.
  • Assist production in all areas.
  • Assist with building tooling/fixturing.
  • Once employee demonstrates competency in position, he/she may be required to train others in similar roles.
  • Verifies conformance of finished product to specifications (first article layout), using precision measuring instruments and various testing equipment as applicable to the process.

 

EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION:          

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Prior knowledge of Additive manufacturing and printing process is strongly preferred. 

 

SKILLS:    

  • Safety-First” mindset.  This individual must approach safety with a high level of maturity and commitment to follow all safety procedures.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Knowledge of all related inspection equipment, micrometers, calipers, comparators, etc.
  • Ability to work independently without supervision.
  • Must value the importance of a team and impact it has on the success of the business.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong multitasker with ability to perform diversified tasks and shift focus as needed.
  • Early morning, late evening and weekend work may be required. 
  • Ability to follow directions, learn new processes, and written documentation skills such as inspection reports, setup sheets, etc.
  • Committed to continued on-the-job development.

  • Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required throughout the workday to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch; talk or hear.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to see print in various sizes and formats. May be required to climb stairs.  Must regularly be able to pull and push up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Work environment: Work performed in a production environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high, in some areas. Handling metal powders may require proper personal protective equipment including respirators and glove. Employee will work with various production equipment requiring compliance to established safety protocols and process work instructions, utilizing various material powders, such as titanium, stainless and cobalt, etc.
