Job Summary:
The Mechanical Engineering Intern will work closely with the engineering team on a variety of projects and tasks, focusing on modern design, sustaining active designs, and managing documentation. This role encompasses responsibilities in new product development, sustaining engineering, continuous improvement, and document control. The intern will contribute to the development and maintenance of custom engineering for Power Conversion Systems. Responsibilities include engaging in conceptual design, system engineering, component selection, implementation, testing, and qualification. This is an onsite, year-round internship based in Irvine, CA, with an expectation of 20-28 hours per week during the academic year and the opportunity for full-time hours during school breaks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop new components and assemblies, providing recommendations for improvements.
- Create detailed drawings for electro-mechanical components and assemblies using Autodesk Inventor.
- Review and verify drawings for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to company standards.
- Troubleshoot and adapt designs as needed, with minimal supervision.
- Prioritize and manage multiple project requests effectively.
- Apply knowledge of parts, assembly constraints, BOMs, and a foundational understanding of GD&T within Inventor.
- Manage documents and part numbers using Autodesk Vault and ERP systems.
- Conduct FEA analysis (thermodynamic and stress) on parts and assemblies as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, preferably Junior or Senior.
- Due to the nature of Intellipower’s programs and products, applicants must have the legal right to work in the U.S. and additionally must be legally authorized to access export-controlled information and source code.
Desired Qualifications:
- Competency with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Visio, & Outlook)
- Competency in 3D Solid Modeling
- Knowledge of sheet metal design
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to plan and time manage tasks and projects
- Ability to learn industry standards and propose solutions to meet standards

Salary Range:
The annual pay range for this position generally ranges between $25.00 to $28.00 per hour. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. In addition, AMETEK provides paid holidays and paid time off.
