The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining ORTEC software applications targeting Microsoft Windows and embedded platforms. This role supports software modernization and product development initiatives while collaborating with product management and cross-functional engineering teams. The candidate should also demonstrate the ability to effectively leverage AI-assisted development tools while applying independent engineering judgement to validate accuracy, maintainability, security, and architectural sustainability of AI-generated recommendations.
The Senior Software Engineer will:
- Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain Windows desktop and service-based applications.
- Design, develop, and maintain service-oriented and distributed software architectures using modern communication frameworks such as gRPC and REST APIs.
- Translate requirements into scalable, maintainable, and testable software solutions.
- Participate in architecture, design reviews, code reviews, and technical planning.
- Develop software interfacing with ORTEC instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
- Collaborate with product management, manufacturing, quality, and customer support.
- Apply Agile methodologies and software engineering best practices.
- Maintain technical requirements, design documentation, and test artifacts.
- Design, implement, and maintain Azure DevOps CI/CD build and release pipelines supporting automated builds, testing, deployment, and software quality initiatives.
- Apply Secure Software Development Framework (SSDF) principles and secure coding practices throughout the software development lifecycle, including threat mitigation, vulnerability management, dependency analysis, and security-focused code reviews.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
- Provide technical assistance to Manufacturing and Customer Service
- Evaluate new technologies and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Configuration management tools such as SVN, Git, TFS, etc.
- Technical collaboration and communication
The Senior Software Engineer will have:
- Bachelor's degree (BS) from four-year college or university in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Physics, or similar fields of study
- Eight (8) or more years of professional software development experience required.
- Due to potential work on ITAR products and projects, applicants must be a U.S. Person (citizen or green card holder)
- Strong proficiency in C# and C++.
- Proficiency with Angular, TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, and modern web application development.
- Experience building responsive and maintainable user interfaces for scientific, industrial, or enterprise software applications.
- Experience in integrating front-end applications with REST and gRPC-based backend services.
- Understanding of frontend architecture, state management, component design, and UI/UX best practices.
- Experience with Azure DevOps for source control, work item management, build automation, release management, and CI/CD pipeline implementation.
- Familiarity with Secure Software Development Frameworks (SSDF), secure coding standards, software supply chain security, and cybersecurity best practices.
- Understanding application security concepts including authentication, authorization, encryption, certificate management, vulnerability remediation, and secure communications.
- Ability to effectively utilize AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, or similar technologies to improve engineering productivity.
- Ability to critically evaluate, validate, and refine AI-generated code, designs, documentation, and recommendations.
- Understanding of the strengths, limitations, security implications, and potential risks of AI-assisted software development.
- Experience applying AI tools to software design, coding, debugging, testing, code reviews, and technical documentation.
