SUMMARY
The Mechanical Engineer will provide technical expertise in designing and manufacturing High Purity Germanium detectors and related products. This role focuses on the design and fabrication of cryogenic vacuum systems, prototype development, and continuous improvement initiatives. The position requires strong collaboration with R&D and manufacturing teams to ensure compliance, innovation, and production goals are met.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and fabricate cryogenic vacuum systems for High Purity Germanium detectors.
- Create detailed fabrication drawings for parts and assemblies using CAD tools; communicate with suppliers on design specifications.
- Build prototypes of newly designed systems and support product introduction to manufacturing.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects, including assembly documentation, equipment specification, installation, and budget/time estimation.
- Collaborate with R&D engineers to ensure compliance and smooth product transitions.
- Support procurement with part obsolescence and supply chain challenges.
- Assist documentation control in processing engineering change requests.
REQUIREMENTS FOR CONSIDERATION
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (required).
- 3–5 years of related experience in mechanical design and fabrication.
Technical Requirements
- Strong working knowledge of cryogenic and vacuum systems, including materials used in such applications.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks suite of products.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of 3D printing technology and materials.
Soft Skills
- Effective communicator with ability to work under tight deadlines and maintain project schedules.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to interpret technical instructions and manage abstract variables.
- Ability to collaborate across teams and support manufacturing goals.
WORKING ENVIORNMENT
Working Environment
- Regular interaction with manufacturing and R&D teams in a moderate-noise environment.
- Occasional exposure to radiation risk; safety protocols must be followed.
- Physical demands include standing, walking, sitting, and occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds.
