Job Description: 

 

The Crystal Lab Technician provides technical support in the production of germanium radiation detectors by growing detector-grade, single-crystal, high-purity germanium (HPGe). This role is responsible for operating and maintaining crystal growth equipment, supporting quality and inventory activities, and ensuring the successful production of high-purity germanium crystals used in detector manufacturing.  Please note that this is a 2nd shift position. 

 

Key Responsibilities

Crystal Growth & Production Support

  • Acid etch and load germanium charge and quartz crucibles into crystal growth furnaces.
  • Operate crystal growth furnaces to produce high-purity germanium crystals suitable for detector manufacturing.
  • Prepare zone-refined ingots for use in the crystal growth process.
  • Document crystal growth activities and maintain accurate production records.

Equipment Maintenance

  • Clean and maintain crystal growth equipment and associated etch sink and clean room areas.
  • Maintain records and logbooks for crystals and crystal growth machines.
  • Assist with general mechanical and electrical maintenance of equipment as required.
  • Troubleshoot crystal growth equipment to support production operations.

Quality & Inventory Support

  • Assist with quality control and yield assurance activities.
  • Support inventory control processes related to crystal growth operations.
  • Help ensure production standards and documentation requirements are maintained.

 

Requirements 

Education & Qualifications

  • Associate degree.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a clean room environment.
