Job Summary
Under the supervision and guidance of the Director of Hardware Engineering, the Embedded Hardware Engineer is responsible for developing FPGA code and firmware to support logic operations, planning and performing hardware tests, perform co-simulation of the new and existing designs.
Responsibilities
• Design, simulate, document and debug FPGA code
• Implement co-simulation toolchains for Altera/Xilinx combined code
• Co-develop firmware using C/C++ and logic using Verilog/VHDL
• Analyze and optimize performance of computer buses and interfaces
• Debug and evaluate prototype hardware and other hardware issues identified by production or customers
• Provide test and debugging assistance to the senior hardware designers
• Participate in schematic and PCB layout reviews using Cadance OrCAD family of design tools
• Develop Python code to exercise hardware
• Ensure that work area and equipment are maintained in a clean, safe, and orderly condition and established company policies and procedures are adhered to
• Perform other related duties as assigned or as required
Minimum Qualifications
• Due to the nature of UEI’s programs and products, applicants must have the legal right to work in the U.S. and additionally must be legally authorized to access export-controlled information and source code.
• BSCE or equivalent military training/experience.
• 1+ year of experience in an engineering related role (including co-op/internship experience and relevant student projects).
Desired Qualifications
• Knowledge of signal processing theory
• Experience with A/D and D/A technology
• Previous Python, C/C++ programming experience.
• HDL experience.
• Experience in test and measurement or DAQ related field.
• Embedded / Firmware programming experience.
• Test and instrumentation experience (logic analyzers, scopes, DMMs, signal generators, etc.).
• Strong verbal and written communications skills
