Job Title: Senior Electrical Design Engineer

Position Summary:
This position is part of the Electrical Engineering team and plays a critical role in the design and development of electrical hardware components and systems used in Atlas weathering instruments. Responsibilities include the development of next generation embedded I/O controllers, power supplies, lamp controller boards, embedded PCs, sensor electronics, and printed circuit boards.
The role requires the application of engineering design principles and technical expertise in electronics, PCB design and layout, analog and digital, mixed signal circuit designs, and power electronics. It involves being resourceful and effectively communicating complex electrical design projects and PCB layout topics with various engineers.
Key Responsibilites:
- Design and develop electrical hardware components and systems for Atlas weathering instruments.
- Develop next-generation embedded I/O controllers, power supplies, lamp controller boards, embedded PCs, sensor electronics, and printed circuit boards.
- Apply engineering design principles and technical expertise in electronics, PCB design and layout, analog and digital, mixed signal circuit designs, and power electronics.
- Communicate complex electrical design projects and PCB layout topics with various engineers.
- Ensure designs meet industry standards and regulatory requirements, including EMC/EMI compliance, CE requirements, and IEC61010 standards.
- Collaborate with third-party labs and compliance agencies (UL, TUV) for product certification.
- Utilize CAD and simulation tools (PSPICE, AutoCAD Electrical, MATLAB, Mathcad) for design and analysis.
- Prototype and test new designs, ensuring functionality and reliability.
- Maintain and update quality management systems (QT9, DFMEA, QMS processes).
- Write technical reports, procedure manuals, and other related business correspondences.
- Stay updated with market trends and advancements in electrical engineering to develop innovative products.
Requirements for Consideration:
- B.S Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from a four-year college or university.
- 7 years of electrical engineering and hardware development experience working with electrical and electronic devices, new product developments in the commercial and consumer electronics industry.
- Experience with analog and digital circuit designs on a broad range of common electronic components and integrated circuits and board designs.
- Ability to take and modify existing hardware platform and implement new components and new sub systems to meet the business need.
- Embedded processors and microcontroller designs experience, knowledge of its peripherals such as RS485, UART, I2C, SPI, RS232, Modbus, USB, and must be comfortable to load, develop, debug embedded firmware and compile source code using available IDE tools and compilers, and able to work in a lab environment and use various debug tools such as JTAG, oscilloscopes, multimeters, power meters, EMI analyzers, FET probes, HV probes, multimeters, and various benchtop test instruments.
- Board design experience and knowledge in building prototypes, including PCB layout, schematic entry, routing, EMI designs, and grounding. Preferred experience with Altium, Allegro, or OrCAD.
- Knowledge in power electronics circuits and power systems, and good understanding of AC and DC circuits, switching mode power supplies, buck/boost topologies, flyback converters, linear regulators, AC/DC converters, knowledge of three phase power systems, power factor correction.
- Ability to work on motor controllers, various sensor designs and sensor boards, magnetic component designs.
- Knowledge in CAD and simulation tools, PSPICE, AutoCAD Electrical, MATLAB, Mathcad
- Ability to develop new products in pace with market changes and ability to complete all sustaining tasks and new project deliverables within timeline and budget.
- Familiar with quality management systems such as QT9 and understanding of DFMEA and QMS processes throughout the company.
- Good interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to write technical reports, procedure manuals and other related business correspondences.
- Ability to certifying products with EMC third-party labs and third-party compliance agencies such as UL or TUV, this includes plan, design, review, and oversee the testing of electrical components and subsystems according to international electrical emission, immunity, including EMC/EMI compliance testing, familiar with CE Requirements, and IEC61010 safety requirements and standards.
