Job Title: Artificial Intelligence Intern – Business Applications
Reports To: Product Manager, with rotational Department assignments
Hours/Shift: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Summary Description
The Artificial Intelligence Intern will help teams reduce manual work and improve visibility by organizing data, creating basic analyses, and testing simple AI/automation ideas. You will partner with department business focals (points of contact) and the AI Steering Committee to support small prototypes, reporting improvements, and introductory AI learning materials. You will work with AI Steering Committee to select a rotational assignment and present as part of a team the project outcomes and AI recommendations to Leadership Team at the end of the internship.
Key Accountabilities:
- Collect, clean, and organize data from spreadsheets and basic system exports; standardize formats, handle missing values, and create a simple data dictionary (field name, definition, source) so others understand the fields
- Create reports, charts, and short written summaries that highlight trends, exceptions, and basic KPIs; help stakeholders interpret results and confirm business definitions (what is included/excluded and how it is calculated)
- Help automate repetitive steps with guidance (e.g., Excel templates, Power Query refresh steps, simple scripts); test the workflow and capture time saved and known limitations in a short before/after write-up
- Test AI ideas for real business problems (e.g., categorize text, summarize notes, flag anomalies, forecast a trend); define success criteria, compare to a basic baseline, and report findings including accuracy/quality checks and where the approach may fail
- Document work in a simple, repeatable format (data sources, steps, assumptions, and results) and follow data privacy/security expectations; where possible, turn your work into reusable templates/checklists so teams can repeat the process
Job Qualifications:
Must have:
- Current college student in AI, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Business Analytics, or a related program (completed at least one semester; first-year students welcome)
- Comfortable working with data in Excel (sorting/filtering, formulas); clear communication and willingness to learn.
Nice to have:
- Intro experience with Python or another programming language (coursework or personal projects)
- Exposure to Microsoft Copilot (building AI agents, etc.), Power Automate, Power BI/Tableau, or SQL, rapid prototyping, prompt engineering, LLM optimization
- Interest in responsible AI (privacy, data quality, and checking results).
