As an OpticsTechnician on our 3rd Shift laser fusion team, you will play a hands-on role in building and enabling high-performance optical components that contribute directly to technologies with the power to transform global energy, sustainability, and scientific discovery. Our work supports breakthrough applications, including laser fusion technologies that are helping unlock a new era of safe, abundant, and low‑carbon energy for the world.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manufacture and clean laser fusion optics in accordance with established best practices.
- Perform manual and ultrasonic cleaning, inspection, and handling of optical components.
- Load components onto standard, custom, or improvised fixtures and operate optics manufacturing equipment (example: grinder, polisher, chemical baths, CNC etc.).
- Collaborate with engineering to develop and optimize optics manufacturing processes.
- Operate, monitor, and maintain manufacturing equipment to ensure product quality.
- Support the creation, revision, and adherence to optical work instructions.
- Test optical components using various metrology equipment and accurately document results.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues as needed.
- Comply with all safety policies and procedures.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- High School Diploma or GED; Associate degree preferred
- 3-5 years of hands-on production manufacturing/operations or a working knowledge of one or more: mechanics, chemical handling/epoxies electronics
- Enjoys hands-on work and takes pride in craftmanship
- Solid mathematical and technical aptitude
- Ability to consistently read and interpret complex technical drawings, written specifications, and verbal instructions
- Excellent manual dexterity, patience and persistence, and attention to detail to handle delicate optical components
- Collaborative team player with a focus on problem-solving
- Ability to take initiative and to be flexible/adaptable with shifting priorities
- Organized, conscientious and quality focused
- Computer skills for data entry, documentation, and communication
- Capable to lift and move up to 70 lbs. and stand for extended periods of time
- Driven to achieve with a commitment to quality and a safety-first mindset
