Job Title: Machine Shop Production Manager

Position Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Machine Shop Production Manager who is responsible for the safe manufacture of high value components used in the manufacture of TH world class products which represents a broad diversity of manufacturing processes. The role is responsible for satisfying all safety, quality, and productivity requirements in the most cost-effective manner. This position requires significant initiative and the ability to deliver results in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be able to develop, implement, and achieve ambitious stretch goals and have a proven track record of developing talent in their direct reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and communication to the Machine shop team to ensure understanding and attainment of performance objectives and monthly shipment plans
- Maintain operational focus, prioritize tactical plans, measure actual performance against plan, implement counter measures where appropriate and drive lean/continuous improvement initiatives
- Manage direct reports; establish schedule, quality, and cost targets; delegate to direct reports or teams with direct reports to accomplish goals
- Work with other managers to coordinate and align business operations and activities; plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and resources to meet goals
- Develops, trains, and involves employees in maintaining and improving departmental safety, efficiency, productivity, quality, cooperation, and morale
- Develop and deploy management metrics
- The successful introduction of lean manufacturing principles throughout the business
- Review the production programme to determine manufacturing requirements in terms of manning, capacity, and resources
- Ensure that all machines and equipment are maintained in a satisfactory condition to maintain product quality and improve the general environment
- Liaise with Engineering for samples and part development
- Review scrap, non-conformance products and quality problem areas and action to resolve
- Identify key performance monitors (KPIs) for each area on key outputs and display in the appropriate areas
- Support and guide all CI projects using appropriate advanced quality/performance improvement tools
- Continually appraise global technological developments/advances such that they may be exploited to reduce manufacturing costs and improve process/product quality
- Ensure the Company's quality and Environmental policies are understood and implemented
- Ensure all Health & Safety rules are adhered to
- Identify areas for cost reduction and productivity improvements
- Monitor and review subordinates for performance, training, and future development
Requirements for Consideration
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality controls, and costs
- Familiar with lean manufacturing work area practices, including 5-S, Visual Controls, Standard Work, work centre metrics, and continuous improvement processes and able to instruct others in these practices
- Knowledge of ERP and similar production management systems
- Proactive communicator who can clearly articulate results and needs across all levels
- Able to establish and communicate clear priorities and to influence others to support and act on those priorities
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines
- Experience working within a Machine Shop is essential
- Experience of CNC Machining and Grinding would be advantageous
- Working knowledge of modern manufacturing techniques e.g Six Sigma, Lean, Kaizen etc
- A strong analytic skill set with the ability to interpret data
- KPI driven
- Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of managing 25+ staff
Experience/Qualifications
- Degree Qualified or equivalent qualification within Engineering (HNC, HND etc)
