Job Title:  Metals Inspector

AMETEK Specialty Metal Products (SMP) is a division of AMETEK, Inc. a leading global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electromechanical devices. The Specialty Metal Products division includes seven successful businesses with operating facilities in the United States, United Kingdom, and Malaysia.

With a strong focus on safety, the AMETEK Hamilton Precision Metals plant in Lancaster, PA custom re-rolls precision metal strip and foil, including titanium, nickel and nickel-based alloys, stainless steel and super alloys with applications in medical, aerospace, electronics, and process control. We are seeking a safety-conscious, action-oriented Metals Inspector to join our team.

Essential Functions:

• Inspect intermediate and finished materials and conduct random in-process inspections to assure conformance to rigid 
  specifications. 
• Inspect critical areas such as width, thickness, diameter, length, camber, burr, cross bow, coil set, flatness, finished hardness, 
  tensile strength, etc. using a variety of precision measuring devices such as, but not limited to Super Micrometer, mikrokator 
  gages, hardness tester, tensile tester, etc.
• Measure strip and foil samples from rolling mills for use in setting x-ray and Beta-ray gages for critical measurements. Check 
  rolling charts for proper tolerances at mills and pickling
• Operate manual slitter, “tensile grind" grinder, 11tensile cut" miller machine for test specimens and prepare specimens for testing. 
• Maintain files and prepare records such as incoming material that have been tested, sampling inspections, and government 
  inspections. Prepare various stock tickets for materials. Prepare material certifications and paperwork to support shipments, 
  excluding customer certification signature. Maintain a clean and orderly work area. 
• Maintain an awareness of quality standards and the acceptability of variances by customers.
• May be asked to participate in continuous improvement activities, individually or as a team member. Actively seeks to 
  continuously improve standard work techniques or processes leading to, but not limited to decreasing lead time, improve quality, 
  decreasing set-up time and/or processing time to reduce costs and expand business.
• This description covers the most significant duties performed but does not exclude other occasional work assignments not 
  mentioned, the inclusion of which would be in conformity with the factor degrees assigned to Metals Inspector.
• May be asked to participate in continuous improvement activities, individually or as a team member. Actively seeks to continuously improve standard work techniques or processes leading to, but not limited to decreasing lead time, improve quality, decreasing set-up time and/or processing time to reduce costs and expand business.
• Performs routine set-up and process adjustments inherent to the production process and monitors the product quality by visual observation and review of process data in accordance with meeting customer specifications.
• Abide by all plant safety rules and procedures. Immediately report any unsafe conditions, acts, near misses, and injuries. Properly wear and care for all Personal Protective Equipment. Communicate and submit ideas for any safety issues. May be asked to participate on Safety Teams.

  • 4120-0.23 Lab Furnace Operation
  • 4120-0.25 Magnetic Shield Efficiency Testing 

Requirements: 

• High school education or equivalent and a high degree of mechanical and mathematical ability.
• Must have the dexterity and the ability to operate the following equipment: towmotor, electric and manual pallet trucks, electric saws, shears, flatteners, spooling tables and banding equipment.
• Must have a valid drivers license.
