Job Description:

With a strong focus on safety, the AMETEK Hamilton Precision Metals plant in Lancaster, PA custom re-rolls precision metal strip and foil, including titanium, nickel and nickel-based alloys, stainless steel and super alloys with applications in medical, aerospace, electronics, and process control. We are seeking a safety-conscious, action-oriented Metals Cleaner to join our team.

 

Essential Functions: 

  • Primary duties include operating strip-cleaning machines. Clean strip in a satisfactory manner, observing material closely in order to identify and prevent (if possible) creases, buckles, coil set, damaged edges, scratches and various flaws or edge cracks. Materials include various metals at various thicknesses, width and tempers. Materials being cleaned are being removed from either mill blocks or various types of cores
  • Respooling of metals, especially for visual inspection of entire lengths of coils. Respooling for stock such as overruns from mills, small coils due to breakage at mills, etc.
  • Respooling and/or interleaving of telescoped coils from mills, furnaces, slitters, or any other operation. Respooling in order to meet customer specifications for final shipment (lbs. max./coil, footage max./coil, oiling of strip, special core and/or interleaving specs). 
  • Respooling and x-ray gauging strip in order to prepare a chart for the customer; or cutting out areas of strip not within thickness tolerances.
  • Blocking of metals, which is tight and uniform spooling of various metals onto mill blocks for rolling operations.
  • Secondary duties include driving towmotors, and hoists, keeping cleaners supplied with appropriate chemicals and operating the distilling unit Respool thin width strip, similar to flatwire, on traverse wound spools (level wound). Perform all paperwork required, keeping accurate account of footages, weights, and type of materials. Keep work area clean and neat at all times.
  • This description covers the most significant duties performed but does not exclude other occasional work assignments not mentioned, the inclusion of which would be in conformity with the factor degrees assigned to Metals Cleaner.
  • May be asked to participate in continuous improvement activities, individually or as a team member. Actively seeks to continuously improve standard work techniques or processes leading to, but not limited to decreasing lead time, improve quality, decreasing set-up time and/or processing time to reduce costs and expand business.
  • Performs routine set-up and process adjustments inherent to the production process and monitors the product quality by visual observation and review of process data in accordance with meeting customer specifications.
  • Abide by all plant safety rules and procedures. Immediately report any unsafe conditions, acts, near misses, and injuries. Properly wear and care for all Personal Protective Equipment. Communicate and submit ideas for any safety issues. May be asked to participate on Safety Teams.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Requirements for an applicant to qualify include a high school education or equivalent and a high degree of mechanical and mathematical ability. Must have the dexterity and the ability to operate equipment and to learn how to use measuring equipment such as micrometers, dial indicators, and calipers. Must have the ability to operate a towmotor.
