Role Summary:

 

The Co-Op CNC Lathe Operator is a developmental manufacturing role designed for students pursuing a degree or technical training in Manufacturing Technology, Precision Machining, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Under direct supervision, the Co-Op CNC Lathe Operator will support the production of precision components by assisting with machine setup, operation, inspection, material handling, and continuous improvement activities while developing foundational CNC machining skills.

This position provides hands-on exposure to CNC turning operations, blueprint reading, metrology, manufacturing processes, quality systems, and safety practices used in an ultra-precision manufacturing environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Assist in the setup and operation of CNC lathe equipment utilizing approved programs and work instructions.
  • Load and unload raw materials and completed components.
  • Monitor machine operations and report quality, tooling, or machine concerns.
  • Perform basic dimensional inspections using:
    •  Calipers
    •  Micrometers
    • Depth Gauges
    • Indicators
    • Thread Gauge
  • Read and interpret basic engineering drawings and manufacturing routings.
  • Assist with part cleaning, deburring, sanding, bead blasting, and finishing operations.
  • Support material preparation activities using saws and secondary equipment.
  • Accurately document inspection and production information.
  • Utilize Visual ERP or equivalent systems for labor reporting and job tracking.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects and manufacturing process reviews.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with 5S standards.
  • Adhere to all safety requirements including PPE, LOTO awareness, hazard communication, and machine guarding procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with machinists, manufacturing engineers, quality personnel, and supervisors.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Enrollment in a Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Precision Machining, or related program.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and work safely in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.

 

Preferred:

 

  • Prior machining coursework or vocational school experience.
  • Exposure to CNC equipment.
  • Familiarity with blueprint reading.
  • Experience using precision measurement equipment.

Physical Requirements:

 

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Frequent lifting up to 35 pounds.
