Job Description:
As a Senior/Principal Electrical Engineer you will design, develop, test and document circuits for embedded, real-time microprocessor-based instruments in conjunction with firmware and mechanical product development. You will be a key team member on our engineering team, furthering our commitment to continuous improvement and new product development.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Designs and implements electronics as it applies to embedded, real-time microprocessor-based instruments per product requirements. This includes both the development of new products as well as enhancements/fixes for existing products
- Analyzes product requirements, researches current technologies, and collaborates with other firmware/electrical/mechanical engineers to assess feasibility and develop solutions which optimize performance and cost
- Documents schematic and layout designs per established procedures/standards and provides additional documentation, including test plans, and working with Test Engineering to improve auto test, as required
- Contributes to project planning, including estimating effort and cost, prioritizing/ordering tasks, and negotiating responsibilities
- Provides support for other associates and/or customers including mentoring less experienced engineers, assisting with the creation of product manuals and other sales literature, trouble-shooting customer issues and answering sales questions
- Identifies and implements opportunities for improvement, both for products and processes
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from 4-year college or university
- 7/10 years of experience in an electronic circuit design/new product development environment, with specific experience in the following areas/disciplines:
- Analog circuit design (DC-1Ghz)
- Digital circuit design
- Embedded controller hardware design
- Skilled in the use of Altium schematic capture, circuit simulation, and pcb layout applications.
- circuit analysis software (such as PSpice)
- Knowledge of EMC requirements, including design and layout techniques to assure EMC performance of PCB’s and products
- Generate new and update existing design schematics, BOMs, and release documentation
- Hands on experience troubleshooting complex electronic circuit designs including the use of oscilloscopes, DMM/DVMs, spectrum and network analyzers and LCR meters
- Knowledge of embedded firmware including C
- Self-motivated, able to work under little supervision, able to adapt to changing design requirements and easily transition between projects to meet priorities
- Able to work in a team environment
- Excellent computer skills, including MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
DESIRED SKILLS
- Familiarity with design techniques for hazardous area approvals such as Intrinsic Safety (IS) and Explosion proof (XP) protection methods, preferred (FM, ATEX, and IECEx)
- Experience with industrial instrumentation such as level/pressure/flow/temperature measurement, preferred
- Familiarity with industrial digital communication protocols such as HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus, Modbus, etc., preferred
- Capable of evaluating systems comprised of electronic circuits, complex embedded firmware, and mechanical components
- Understands calibration of instruments and methods to compensate for temperature or other parameters
- Performs design verification and validation testing to ensure design meets product specifications.
- Reviews product designs to optimize component and manufacturing costs (DFMEA) to support manufacturing and cost reduction (VAVE) programs
