Job Description: 

The Material Handler receives, stores, ships and issues equipment, material, supplies, merchandise, or tools, and compiles stock records in stockroom, warehouse, by performing the following duties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  • Counts, sorts, or weighs incoming articles to verify receipt of items on requisition or invoices. Examines stock to verify basic conformance to specifications.
  • Stores articles in bins, on floor, or on shelves, according to identifying information such as part number, size, or type of material.
  • Fills orders or issues supplies from stock. Prepares periodic, special, or perpetual inventory of stock.
  • Compiles reports on use of stock handling equipment, adjustments of inventory count and stock records, spoilage of or damage to stock, location changes, and refusal of shipments.
  • Marks identifying codes, figures, or letters on articles.
  • Distributes stock among production workers, keeping records of material issued.
  • Determines methods of storage, identification, and stock location, considering temperature, humidity, height and weight limits, turnover, floor loading capacities, and required space.
  • Moves or transports material or supplies to other departments. Maintains inventory and other stock records.
  • Packs customer orders according to procedures.
  • May learn computerized systems for various modes of shipping. May drive forklift to complete duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and minimum three (3) years related experience and/or training required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  •  Ability to speak effectively with customers or employees of organization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience with UPS and FedEx Software preferred.
  • Oracle ERP experience a plus.
  • Able to calculate figures and amounts such as basic mathematics.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

Compensation

Employee Type:  Hourly
Salary Minimum:  $30,000
Salary Maximum:  $45,000
