Job Description: 

Responsible for the Engineering Management, system architectural design, qualification and production release of electronic based instruments for use in the industrial process industry. Coordinates with other departments including Operations, Quality, Purchasing to achieve established project goals.

 

Engineering Management

  • Manage a highly technical team of skilled electrical, mechanical, firmware, engineers to develop new products and sustain the manufacture of existing projects. Includes day to day prioritization of tasks and workload.
  • Manage New Product Development (NPD) projects using a Phase gate process and comprehensive Project Management encompassing the budget, product requirements and project timeline.

 

Product Development

  • Strong technical leader guiding developing of new products using new techniques and technologies with input from sales, marketing and Product Management.
  • Designs, reviews, and troubleshoots complex electro-mechanical systems. Capable of evaluating systems comprised of electronic circuits, complex embedded firmware, and mechanical components.
  • Generate new and update existing design schematics, BOMs, and release documentation and works closely with PCB designers to design and validate analog, digital, RF and power circuits on multi-layer PCBs.
  • Participate in the certification of electro-mechanical products for use in hazardous applications. Knowledgeable of compliance with international standards and agency approval process. Experienced with EMC, and safety agency approval processes and design requirements.
  • Understands calibration of instruments and methods to compensate for temperature or other parameters.
  • Directs, coordinates, and participates in the building and qualification of prototypes as well as development and maintenance of test labs and facilities.
  • Performs design verification and validation testing to ensure design meets product specifications.
  • Prepares designs and documentation packages using Word and other engineering application software for both internal and external use.

 

Sustaining & Manufacturing Engineering

  • Assists with product introductions into manufacturing, supporting sourcing and production departments.
  • Support sustaining engineering activities including component substitution approval, documentation updates, and compliance recertification efforts.
  • Reviews product designs to optimize component and manufacturing costs (DFMEA) on a continual basis to support manufacturing and cost reduction (VAVE) programs.
  • Participates in customer site visits and design reviews.
  • Supports sales and customer service to address customer needs as required.

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in Electrical Engineering from four-year college or university
  • Five to seven years related experience and/or training in an engineering environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Hands on experience troubleshooting complex electronic circuit designs including the use of oscilloscopes, network analyzers and LCR meters.
    • Skilled in the use of Altium schematic capture and circuit simulation software applications.
    • Experience in hazardous location approval including FM, ATEX, and IECEx if desired.
    • Experience leading design efforts and coordinating design teams.
    • Excellent communication skills, written and oral, as well as exceptional design documentation and project organizational skills.
    • Self-motivated, able to work under little supervision, able to adapt to changing design requirements and easily transition between projects to meet priorities.
    • Able to work in a team environment.
    • Excellent computer skills, including MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
