Position Summary:
The Floating Lead / Cross-Department Technician is a versatile and skilled team member responsible for supporting multiple operational areas across departments. This role includes performing advanced technical tasks, mentoring technicians, and ensuring consistent quality and compliance across repair stations. The Floating Lead serves as a key resource for cross-training, process improvement, and interdepartmental collaboration.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform overhaul and repair of aircraft safety equipment including fire extinguishers, oxygen masks, and cylinder/regulator assemblies.
- Float between departments to support workload balancing, training, and technical troubleshooting.
- Lead or assist in onboarding and training of new technicians across departments.
- Ensure adherence to FAA regulations and internal quality standards across all work areas.
- Collaborate with department leads and supervisors to identify process improvements and implement best practices.
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure timely completion of work orders.
- Operate specialized equipment including pressure gauges, flow meters, torque tools, and hydrostatic testing systems.
- Serve as a point of contact for technical questions and escalation of complex repair issues.
- Support cross-functional initiatives including audits, inventory management, and safety compliance.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required; A&P certification strongly preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in aircraft component repair or equivalent technical field.
- Proven ability to work independently and across teams with minimal supervision.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and proficiency with hand and power tools.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and regulatory documents.
- Must pass FAA pre-employment Drug and Alcohol testing.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder due to government contracts.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 60 pounds.
- Must be able to work in various shop environments and wear required PPE.
- Vision requirements include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision.
