Job Description: 

The Director of Strategic Marketing is responsible for driving market-led growth across AMETEK's Aerospace & Defense Division, a portfolio of eight businesses serving commercial aerospace, defense, space, and related high-performance markets. Reporting to the Division Vice President of Sales and Marketing, this role leads market intelligence, strategic planning, portfolio development, customer insights, and commercialization initiatives that support the division's long-term growth objectives.

Working closely with Business Unit leadership, Product Management, Sales, and Engineering teams, the role identifies growth opportunities, evaluates market trends, strengthens competitive positioning, and ensures alignment between customer needs, product roadmaps, and commercial strategies. Through a structured approach, this leader helps accelerate organic growth and build sustainable competitive advantage across the division.

 

Key Responsibilities

Market Intelligence & Strategic Planning

  • Lead division-wide market intelligence, competitive analysis, market sizing, and segmentation activities
  • Monitor aerospace, defense, and space market trends, customer requirements, technology roadmaps, and competitive developments
  • Support strategic planning and growth initiatives through actionable market insights and forecasts
  • Identify emerging opportunities, adjacency markets, and growth vectors across the division

Growth Strategy & Portfolio Development

  • Develop and maintain a multi-year growth strategy aligned with division objectives
  • Partner with Business Unit leaders to evaluate market opportunities, prioritize investments, and guide portfolio decisions
  • Support new market entry strategies, strategic partnerships, and acquisition evaluations
  • Drive growth initiatives that expand market share and accelerate organic revenue growth

Customer Insights & Commercialization

  • Lead Voice of Customer initiatives to identify unmet needs and emerging customer requirements
  • Partner with Product Management and Engineering teams to align/prioritize product roadmap decisions with market opportunities
  • Support new product commercialization through effective positioning, value proposition development, and go-to-market planning
  • Promote best practices in customer engagement, market analysis, and commercialization across the division

Marketing Leadership & Commercial Effectiveness

  • Provide strategic leadership and guidance to Business Unit marketing teams
  • Drive division-wide marketing initiatives, major industry events, and integrated campaigns supporting growth priorities
  • Establish marketing performance metrics and promote data-driven decision making
  • Support commercial excellence through alignment of marketing, product management, and sales activities

Leadership & Organizational Development

  • Foster collaboration and sharing of best practices across the division's eight businesses
  • Build organizational capability in strategic marketing, market intelligence, and growth management
  • Coach and develop marketing talent and future leaders across the division.
  • Promote a culture of customer focus, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Engineering, or a related field
  • MBA or advanced business degree preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in Aerospace & Defense, industrial technology, or highly engineered products businesses
  • Demonstrated success in strategic marketing, product management, business development, portfolio strategy, or commercial leadership roles
  • Strong understanding of aerospace and defense markets, customers, competitive dynamics, and technology trends
  • Experience leading market research, Voice of Customer, segmentation, and growth strategy initiatives
  • Proven ability to influence and lead cross-functional teams in a matrixed organization
  • Strong analytical, communication, and executive presentation skills
  • Experience supporting global aerospace and defense markets

  • This is an in-office position based out of either Harleysville, PA, or Middlefield, CT
