Job Title: Weld Prep Mechanic - 1st Shift

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
The Production Weld Prep Mechanic is responsible for the fabrication and assembly of heat exchanger components according to engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards. This role supports production operations through component preparation, assembly, testing, inspection, and maintenance of a safe and organized work environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare cores for welding operations, including straightening, soap testing, and other required pre-production activities.
- Prepare sub-components for assembly and welding by performing cleaning and other necessary preparation processes.
- Set up cores and sub-components in welding fixtures and prepare assemblies for welding.
- Perform leak testing on cores using leak tanks (certification required).
- Inspect completed welds for visible defects, including:
- Missing welds
- Voids or gaps in welds
- Excess weld material
- Poor weld quality or workmanship
- Follow all quality, safety, and production procedures throughout the manufacturing process.
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation during the shift and ensure the work area is properly prepared for the next shift in accordance with 5S standards.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and assist with other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from engineering drawings, blueprints, and manufacturing specifications.
- Basic mathematical skills required for measurements and calculations.
- Proficiency in the use of precision measuring equipment and shop tools, including:
- Calipers
- Height gauges
- Micrometers
- Squares
- Grinders
- Sanders
- Routers
- Band saws
- Drill presses
- Hydraulic presses
- Various hand tools
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a manufacturing environment.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Previous manufacturing or shop floor experience preferred.
- Experience in fabrication, assembly, welding support, or heat exchanger production is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift and move materials and components in accordance with company safety guidelines.
- Ability to work safely around machinery, tools, and production equipment.
