The Lead Design Engineer is responsible for overseeing the design and development of complex mechanical parts and assemblies. This role focuses on leading technical decision-making, ensuring design integrity, and driving innovation across projects. The Lead Design Engineer will play a key role in cross-functional collaboration, mentoring, and continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of 3D models of complex aerospace hardware
  • Prepare design concepts, sketches, layouts, technical drawings, and BOMs
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for design-related decisions across new and existing products
  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders to ensure manufacturability
  • Certify technical reviews and other engineering documentation
  • Lead cross-functional activities to sustain existing designs
  • Manage complete implementation of engineering design change requests
  • Lead resolution of technical issues during manufacturing and customer interactions
  • Champion process improvement activities related to design engineering
  • Support proposals and future product development

 

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Extensive experience as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, Technical Lead, or similar role
  • Expertise in parametric CAD design
  • Expertise in drawing ANSI standards and GD&T procedures
  • Expertise in manufacturing techniques and processes
  • Knowledge of material properties and selection process
  • Knowledge of FMEAs and quality assurance processes
  • Knowledge of relevant MIL-STD’s
  • Familiarity with heat and mass transfer, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and structural mechanics
  • Highly motivated self-starter
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or a related field
  • 8+ years of progressive engineering experience

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work for prolonged periods on a computer or in a lab environment
  • Ability to move equipment up to 25 pounds

 

Other Requirements:

  • Due to contracts with the United States Government, the candidate must be either a US Citizen or Green card holder.

Compensation

Employee Type:  Salaried
Salary Minimum:  $120,000
Salary Maximum:  $160,000
Incentive:  No
