The AMETEK Hughes-Treitler Business Unit, part of the Thermal Systems Management -Aerospace & Defense Division, designs and manufactures state of the art plate-fin heat exchangers, cold plates, condensers, evaporators, and other heat transfer products. We provide custom design and engineering services, to high quality manufacturing standards, for the aircraft, engine and industrial heat exchangers in the mobile/marine/avionics/space and missile markets.
Position Summary:
The Analytical Engineer is responsible for conducting intricate analyses to ensure products will meet customer requirements. This role requires rigorous application of heat and mass transfer, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and structural mechanics while adhering to manufacturing, testing, and quality best practices. The Analytical Engineer will engage in problem-solving daily and regularly present results to internal and external stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform critical thermal and structural analyses of complex aerospace hardware through hand calculations, in-house software, and commercial analysis packages
- Size heat exchangers and heat transfer components to fulfill customer requirements
- Interface with internal and external stakeholders to ensure manufacturability
- Provide heat exchanger core details to the design and estimating department
- Review and approve acceptance and qualification test procedures
- Review and approve design changes
- Liaise with customer on heat exchanger requirements
- Compile and present results in a clear manner
- Generate technical reviews and other engineering documentation
- Support proposals and new product initiatives
- Support disposition of technical issues which occur during manufacturing
- Support customer reviews and inbound requests
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Expertise in heat and mass transfer, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and structural mechanics
- Knowledge of commercial CFD and FEA software packages
- Knowledge of design principles, manufacturing processes, and assembly techniques
- Knowledge of 3D modeling and CAD software
- Familiarity with material properties and selection process
- Highly motivated self-starter
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or a related field
- Master’s degree preferred
- 2+ years of experience in a similar role
- Due to contracts with the United States Government, the candidate must be either a US Citizen or Green card holder.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work for prolonged periods on a computer or in a lab environment
- Ability to move equipment up to 25 pounds
